aw jeeeeezzzz

to respond to some posts:
I wash my sheets once a week, but I don't think it really matters because I wear an undershirt to bed anyway.

but undershirt+tshirt+summer = too hot, so I can't wear one during the day.

I have the same back acne. I wear an undershirt and wash my sheets weekly. I still have the acne. I've found what helps tremendously is to get sun on my back. During the summer months, I spend alot of time wakeboarding or out on the boat. The sun helps keep my back dry and they always seem to go away.

For those who've heard of/used Accutane, you should check out Doxycycline. It has pretty much the same effects in a less potent form. Dries your lips just the same so you know it does basically the same thing to your glands.

agreed.

Also air your back out. Take your shirt off whenever possible. If you are fat or ashamed, get over it. Your back needs to air out. Stay away from steaming hot showers too, unless you are going to walk around shirtless until your back cools down.

I am 25 and had problems earlier in my life. Medications didnt help, they just bleached my sheets out. Let the sun get to your back, as well as air and things will get better.

change your shirt, and try to take at least one more shower, it sounds wierd but the shower helps clear your back of built up sweat and dirt.

hm I'm reading a little about triclosan and it sounds really scary! :/

Unless having the skin crack and bleed because its so dry is your idea of a good time.

My acne has receded to a minor level finally. It was terrible through highschool...but I stopped getting it on my face at all during college. Believe it or not, I don't even wash my face hardly ever now...it just dries out my skin. I get like one zit a month on my face tops.

I use erithromycine (?) (minocyclin made me feel drunk all day, seriously) 4 pills a day because I still had acne on my neck, shoulders and back...places that are very hard to clear up with creams.

I used diffin gel for a while, but it cost a lot and didn't hardly do anything so I stopped using it.

The wash, don't toss it yet.
I use the beroxl peroxide wash every morning in the shower. The first thing I do in the shower is lather some up and put it all over my back, neck and shoulders. Then I try not to wash it off and do all my other cleaning stuff, to maximize the time its on my skin. The stuff didn't seem to do much at first, in fact it might have made it worse for awhile...but now my shoulders are clear, my neck is clearer than its been in 12 years (I get a couple small zits on it a month still...it used to be WAY worse, even after my face cleared up) And my back just has some small bump zits that never amount to anything. Not bad, all things considered. But I'm getting older...my acne just may be on the way out. I'd stick with the wash awhile longer.

Some of these tips look very helpful.
I will be getting some sun and see if that helps.

I don't actually have a useful tip to make since some really good stuff seems to have already been posted here. What I do have to say, though, is that if worse comes worse, you'll eventually just grow out of it. I used to have acne on my face and back, and it didn't seem to matter what I did to try and get rid of it, it was always there. But now I don't have acne at all, it just went away on it's own by the time I was almost 20.

I do have a question though: is there anything you can do for scars left by acne? Other than just waiting for them to fade away naturally? I have slight scarring on my temples which really isn't very visible, but I'd prefer to have them gone since I always know that they are there. Also, while the scars on my back have faded considerably, they used to make me extremely self conscious. What can be done for this sort of thing? (Keeping cost in mind)

One of the simplest things you can do to ensure healthy skin - especially your back - is to wash your bed sheets regularly. When I first moved away from home I think I washed my bed sheets once a month. As a result, the sweaty dirty sheets covering my body ended up giving me lots of pimples on my back. Once I began regular washings of my sheets my skin cleared up and I no longer have a problem with pimples on my back. You would be suprised how seldom people wash their bedsheets.

Of course, the fact that you got older had nothing to do with it, right?

Folks, chronic acne has very little to do hygiene. In fact, too much washing of the skin can make it worse.

I think the problem is that there's almost always a shirt (usually sweaty I might add) rubbing against my back. I don't have anything constantly rubbing at my face, which is probably why it's so much better

i'm kinda curious about scars from acne as well. i've got a pretty decent amount of acne...basically everywhere you can get it. i was on minocyclene for probably 3 years, and that did a pretty good job of keeping my face clear...but when i was on it, and now, i still had/have acne on my back, chest, and sometimes butt (it's more skin blemishes on my butt...not really pimples). anyway...i've got 4 or 5 scars on my back from acne. 1 of them is about the size of a dime :( , and the others are smaller. aside from the acne making me extremely self-consious around people i dont know really well, the scars bother me a lot too.

when i was still going to my dermatologist, he injected cortozone (sp?) into the scars a couple times...and it would bring them down so they werent raised as high off my skin...but it would only work for about 6 weeks, and getting cortozone shots all the time is bad for you anyway(at least thats what i was told).

anyway...is there anything that can be done about the scars?
