What do you consider room temperature?

I moved to Arizona from Illinois 8 years ago, and I am convinced that Arizonans have a distorted perception of temperature. They are so used to their 100+ degree norms, that they are freezing when it's below 80. My buddy just got back from San Diego, and said he had a horrible time because it was in the high-70's all weekend. The past week in our office, they had problems with the thermostat, and it got chilly in here. Everyone was complaining. They just fixed it this week, and it's 78 in here now. Everyone is happy, but I am hot. It's humid as hell in here, and I'm a bigger guy.

So am I off base? Is 78 room temperature? Everything I found online says 68-75, which sounds more reasonable to me. But I know I like it more chilly than most.

68-70 is room temp to me. Anything more is hot. Of course I am from the South.

i'm in AZ. if you had room temp at 68-74, you'd be paying over $200 a month in electricity. we keep ours at about 78

68-72 for a man.
76-80 for a woman.
That's why many arguments arise at our office, women like it warmer in general.

About 72-74 is the sweet spot range in our house. It can get warm quickly though here in the South and I can tell when the A/C isn't cycling on as quickly as I'd like. My wife is cold-natured and that's about as low as we take it (except at night when we both sleep better with it chilly.)

I used to be in the 68-72 range as well.

But then I realized my ability to tolerate heat was just about nil. My house stays at 78 now. I have a noticeably better time outside in the heat now. And my utility bills are a bit nicer as well. The only problem is a week or two of a little discomfort in spring when the house goes from an average of 68 degrees (my heat setting) to 77 (my AC setting).

While AC makes life nice, it sure does make it much harder to tolerate heat.

Of course, ceiling fans make this much more bearable

I'd prefer it to be about 70, but we run the AC at about 80 in the summer for a compromise since the woman is cold blooded, and I don't want to pay to cool it down to 72.

In the winter we run around 68'ish on the thermostat.

That's about the middle of the range I've always heard, but where did you get that exact figure from?

78-85.

Less than 60? No freaking way. It has to be humid too. I can't stand dry weather. :bleh:

I like about 17C. If I'm alone in the house I turn it down to around 14C when I sleep because I sleep better.

i've heard 78 for summer and 72 for winter... i keep it about 78 or 77 with a fan going to help move the athlon and monitor heated air out of my room.

whatever it is here at work is perfect.

I'm in Austin, grew up in TX my entire life. Didn't use A/C too often either.

If I do turn AC on, it's around 82 - 85. I usually turn it off at night.

In the winter, I turn it up to 72 - 75.

I live in Mesa, and keep the temp between 70 and 75 (70 at night, 75 during day or when out).

Brand New 2 ACs to keep the house like this, electricity = ouch.
