What do you collect? And how do you store these collections?

Me and collecting....don't get me started. I live to collect. However, my interests change too often, and I end up selling one collection to start another. So at least I don't have hoards of stuff lying around. I've collected coins, comics, sports cards, Star Wars toys, you name it. I recently sold my vintage Batman comic collection, that I was quite proud of. Needed the money. For those who collect, I had a 1945 Batman #27 in Fine. It was a sad day. Currently, I'm into mint-in-package vintage Star Wars figures. I think I'll be into this for the long haul. One thing I've learned about collecting is that what you don't have in your collection says as much as what you do have. I used to make the mistake of buying anything and everything. But i think I'll be able to keep my interest longer if I only buy on the rare occassion that I find something I can't live without. I'd much rather have a collection of 5 super-rare prestine pieces, than 500 common pieces. Right now, the few figures I have are in protective cases, sitting on a shelf in my bedroom.

I collect Hot Wheels cars (Matchbox cars suck) and at the height of my collection, I had about 60 cars in blister packs. After little cousins come over, my collection usually drops, since they are all like "ooohh, i dont have that car...that car is nice...." I cant help but give the dang cars to them. I have like 20-30 cars now and pretty much stopped collecting. Last time I bought a hot wheels was like a year ago

people don't collect things because they're useful. what is the practical use of baseball cards? people collect things because they have a special interest in them. no, im not going to invite people to come over and see my casino chips (altho i'm more than happy to show people that are curious ), but i enjoy looking at them myself. i enjoy acquiring new ones, trading with other people, comparing the art on them, trying to get ones from varying locations, etc. i think its just a part of human nature to want to hoard "stuff." collectors are people that just tend to focus on one type of "stuff" rather than "stuff" in general. does that make sense?
