I just got myself a new IBM T23 and I need to find a safe way to take it around with me. Since I'm a student in college, i was looking for either a laptop bag with space for books (shoulder-slung, not backpack) or I've seen some people have this protective pouch that is almost exactly the size of of the laptop and then they just put that inside their normal book-bags( I think i'd like these if i could find out what their called).

So what do you use?

I got this bad boy at CompGeeks...

It's smaller than the giant notebook backpacks, but looks like a normal backpack. Excellent padding and protection for your laptop, and enough room for you books/folders. Works great for me for College...

Oh, and it's really cheap, only $12.95 at CompGeeks.com, as per the link above....

I got a standard Targus case at BB (here) for $20 AR I think. It works pretty well, but man, I should have gotten a lighter laptop (6.5 lbs + adapter/floppy drive).

If I ever actually took my old-ass laptop anywhere I would throw in my Zero-Halliburton briefcase. That's style my friend.

backpack, it's only 3 lbs! I wish I had a plastic slipcover for it though, to prevent scratches!

I think thats kind of what I'm looking for. Something to go around the laptop that protects it from the books and light impacts and such. But what are these called? and where can i find em?

This one is mine.

It is carried over the shoulder - has a compartment for the laptop that has great padding. A lot of storage compartments and this one is $10 cheaper than when I purchased it a few months back.

CompUSA has them...it's here on the case logic website.
or the COmpUSA website has them.
I had one of these for a while, but hated having to pull the sleev out of my backpack, then pulling the notebook out of the sleeve, so I just skipped a step and got the cheap case logic backpack/notebook carry-all from CompGeeks...

This is similar to the case I have. I didn't buy mine specifically for a laptop but it can easily contain one in a pinch.

STM backpack. I HIGHLY recomend a backpack over a shoulder strap. Far less strain when you are lugging stuff around. If you can get one with a waist strap, its even better, 99% of the weight is off your shoulders.

Work gave everyone a canvas bag that has a foam cushioned enclosure for a laptop. So far the bag has done a good job. It also has room for books and laptop accessories.

Something like this
