I get that sometimes when I bite off more than I can chew, or when I fail to chew the food thoroughly enough.

Yeah i happens to me all too often. Usually when I eat steak or chicken and don't chew it enough. You pretty much have to just man up and take a big swig of water/liquid to wash it down. Hurts like hell, but it's either that or suffocation.
