What do you call this kind of foam and where can I source it?

It came from a thrift store 15 years ago and hasn't been wiped down since God knows how many people handled it. The wipe-down would happen before they send it off for VGA grading, if that's what they desire. It even had a pen mark that still needed to be rubbed off and a price tag that misrepresented it as "Used."

Holy Christ, I think you're actually serious.

😕

Obviously, the serious collectors are the ones taking them off my hands. I never cared about VGA grading and open anything I intend to keep. The VGA guys are local though (Smyrna, GA).

The first just sold for just over $200 (the used but re-sealed Transformers Beast Wars Transmetals you see behind it sold for more). The second item has people offering me thousands.

I'm not even going to get to list the big stuff like the cellophane-wrapped 6-pack of Master Quest or the sealed Fire controller. People just couldn't wait.

Could be, but does open-cell automatically mean it is rigid? The stuff I'm finding at craft stores is rough and looks like opened cell of a similar density.

I think either can be manufactured to different rigidities, but open cell foam is typically more compressible. Think couch cushions, egg crate foam, etc.
