My family doc said I had a mild case of it when I was 16. My mom hated it because it's not attractive especially to girls. The doc said that as I grow older, I should work out and I'd grow out of it.

I'm 20 now and it's totally gone. (yea worked out here and there intensively few summers)

What's the condition called? What causes it? ppl say sitting down to a lazy position causes it (which i think is a myth.. probably genetics?)

thats what causes scoliosis.

There is no correlation as of yet to scoliosis and posture... The only thing we know is that it occurs more in athletic people...

BTW, you can have scoliosis very seriously and you may not be able to visibly see at all the the spine is curved.

I am more relaxed when I am sitting slouched.

I did a scientic study on it and yup, it is more relaxing to site slouched.

Of course as long as you know when and when not to slouch, theres not a problem ;)

I thought scoliosis was a lateral curvature of the spine, not like somebody bent over.

yup, can be lateral also...

Of course, your first response may have been correct, that he was referring to some condition OTHER than scoliosis. It's nice when people who post asking questions actually come back and follow-up on their own threads.....I've seen LOLYourFace post in a number of threads since this one...sometimes I wonder why I bother.

At least that trend was killed about 7-8 years ago. I hated carrying my backpack on one shoulder but EVERYBODY wore them that way until around the mid-90s.

Actually, I think the definition of scoliosis is lateral curvature.
I thought I remembered that from X-Ray school in 1965, but I looked it up to make sure. :)

I can't find any official medical term for "slouching".

Well, thats where good old marjunana comes in to remove the pain :D I have a 20 degree curve or something. I am around 5'10 and around 130lbs? I am a skinny dude, I was 140 but I spend all my time on the computer :p Alot of it is caused my genitics, which in my case sucks to be me :(
