I have a 2001 SL1 5-speed. just hit 70k and it has been fine. I get 40mpg, haven't had any problems with it whatsoever, and I've seen the older SLs hit 200K and still run well. I think they are very good cars if all you want is a box that will get you from point A to point B reliably and efficiently without any flashy stuff.

They're not bad, but when I had to use my mother's 2001 Saturn L200, the car just felt so uncomfortable compared to my Stratus. Also, the car felt underpowered going up hills.

I had a 90 something sedan... the one with extra power.... it was a really decent car. :)

If you get a like 2002 4 cylinder saturn or earlier, be prepared to replace the altenator and head gasket.

I have a 99 Saturn and haven't had to replace either item.
My gf's 01 L200 2.2L Ecotec hit almost 60K before she sold it, factory alternator and head gasket. Of course if you knew what you were talking about, you would know pre-2003 models had numerous different engines.

I never claimed to know what I was talking about. My car meets the "2002 4 cylinder saturn or earlier" part though. I have a 99 SL2 manual transmission.
Sorry, wasn't referring to you, but the moron making a blanket statement.

I own a Cavalier. It was affordable (I'm a high school student, I don't have much money) it gets really good gas mileage, it's been very reliable, and it came with a whatever-point inspection (new tires, all fluids changed, state inspected) from the SATURN dealer I bought it from. Granted, it's not the fastest or manliest car, but it gets me where I need to go safely and reliably.

I have a 98 SL that is about the same for me. I still get very good mileage, but it is drinking quite a bit of oil now at 95K miles. That said, in retrospect, I've beat it to hell and back (got it when I was 17, and gone through 5 winters in UP Michigan), and it's still going strong with no major issues. I'd consider a Sky for a new car later this year, but I'm not sure it'll happen due to practicality reasons. :)

My sister has a 99 SL1, and my brother has a new Ion, which he seems to like well enough. My dad also has a 2004? Vue, which he likes. Needless to say, my family gets VERY good service from the dealership. :D

My GF has a 2000 SC1. It has 55k miles. It's way underpowered, but it's okay and gets great mileage.

Big Saturn fan, everyone in my family has at least one now. We've had the whole range, from 91 to 05, from coupes to sedans to SUVs. They are great little cars, kind of like the Athlons of the car world - great bang for your buck. The newer models are a lot roomier than the older models as well. I'm leasing an 05 right now and it's just great - very quiet, great maintenance plan, can do a 360 turn within a 4-way stop, etc. Plus the sales people treat you decent because there's a no-haggle policy.

The Aura and new Outlook are both pretty nice. The Ion is due for its refresh (when is that one coming out? 2008?).

My sister used to drive an SL2 and totaled it when an oncoming car went left of center and hit the van in front of her, causing the van to roll over my sister's car.

She was mostly fine, walked away from it pretty much. Her wrist hurt, other than that she was fine.

I bought a 2003 Brand new for my wife when they were released, no problems other than minor wear and tear, the people at saturn are by far the best to deal with of any car dealer/manuf I've dealt with and this goes for the corporation down to the dealership

WE are on our third.

Had a 95 SW2.. owned from 72,000 to 102,000 miles. Good car.

Had a 00 SW2.. owned from 0 to 50,000 miles. The extended warranty that I bought was a god-send. Had some major electrical components fail (rear wiper controller and front wiper controller failures totally unrelated to each other), and then the head decided to destroy itself. New head assembly under warranty.

Still have an 02 L100.. owned from 0 to 76,000 miles. Been a good car for the most part. Needs a new exhaust now and had a steering rack replacement at 74,500 miles under warranty. Rear tires make noise since no one can align this car and make it stick.

Me too ... I have a 1995 Cavalier ... 220,000, reliable little car. Daily commuter that I'm not planning on replacing too soon. People that equate the type of car you drive with who you are make me :( Horsepower != testicles.

Which Saturn though? I know the Ion has suffered over the years from gremlins in the electrical system.

The new Aura is intriguing though.

That's what I've always heard about them. I don't see myself ever owning a Saturn.

I've said that before, but the more I look at the Aura and Outlook and knowing they are going to upgrade the rest of their line similarly, I can't help but think I may bend that rule.

I wish I could find a good Vue around here. Local dealer has the 04 I4 and 02 V6. Switch the years or the engines, damnit!

I used to work with a guy who is also a firefighter (EMT) that often responded to vehicle crashes. He said he was always impressed by how well the Saturns (and more importantly the occupants) fared in severe collisions.

Bought my wife a 2006 Saturn Vue for our newborn. I didn't want it because I knew it was too small for a family. With that being said, it is the only negative I have with it. 16k miles, no issues. I am skeptical of Saturn still, but if I can get 100k miles with no major issues, then it was a decent buy. Plus, I get to pick the next car. If I was buying today, it would be a Dodge Charge RT.
