IMHOI

Sell the Vooddo PCI card and get something faster if you use the PC for gaming at all. If you don't use it for games, that card is more than adequate.

The specs look good on the 19" monitor, just never heard of the brand.KDS make decent monitor but I've heard talk about them going belly up, so may affect your warranty. The deal on mine at Sams Club was $100.00 for a 17" Avitron(Trinitron Flat screen)clearance price, they only had 2 left. The newer model that was replacing it was a flat screen as well for around $150.00 with a rebate of about $20.00 so $130.00 total. The price was good enough that I'm not worried about the warranty.

The best thing to do when picking out a monitor is to go to a store that has several on display & spend some time in front of them.Comp USA where I live always has a nice display,Office Depot as well.Check your Sunday flyers & the Hot Deals forum.

Look for the monitors that have a true flat screen, they do tend to cost more but sometimes you can find a good deal.If you have a Costco or a Sams Club be sure to stop by & see what they have.Just be sure to take your time looking, do your homework & you'll find this to be one of your best upgrades.

By the way are you finding the Voodoo card meets your needs? If not I think on your budget you should figure about $150 on the best monitor you can get & $60.00 on the best video card(Radeon LE or Geforce)

"Looks like YOU forgot about selling your videocard and old monitor"
While I have no problem believing he can sell his Voodoo 3 2000 PCI video card, I am not sure anyone is interested in a 14" Proview monitor! I do agree that the monitor is the first thing to upgrade. Even a bargain 17" is going to look amazing after a 14"! Watch the ads, staples recently offered a 17" Envision flat screen for around $150 or so and there are coupon codes to provide additional discounts. Staples (and others) also offer free shipping on orders over $50. I also agree with the newegg Visiontek geforce 2 GTS-V for $65, best bang for the buck available. (Sort of like the Voodoo 3 used to be...) If you don't want to wait for a deal on a monitor, newegg also offers the Hitachi CM615 17" .24 dpi for $155 plus $20 shipping. It is supposed to be a very good monitor for the money. Down the road, the sound card and speakers also would provide an amazing difference in your multimedia experience, but I would go for visual first.

You'd be surprised . . . I was thinking about $10 for the monitor to someone like a neighbor who is entry level computing.

Speakinjg of Staples, I got my neighbor to buy a flat screen 17" Envision for less than $100 after rebate. ALWAYS check Hot Deals (Did I already mention this?). :)

I really don't know how someone staring at a 14" monitor day after day could consider upgrading their case or video card before that monitor. I'd definitely spend the cash on a new monitor. Even any no name brand 17" would be the best upgrade for that pc.

It's foolish IMO to spend big cash on hardware like CPU's and video cards unless u really need the extra power right away. A radeon 8500 to play games on a 14" monitor ? I wouldn't .
