what do xrays do to your balls?

how come they have to cover your privates up with a lead barrier before they take an xray? i took a lot of xrays last week, and those xray technicians always scare me because they seem so nonchalant about it. they close the big huge xray room door (lead coated i presume) and they go back and hide behind the gun, and behind a barrier. how accurate is this xray gun?! meanwhile they throw me INFRONT of the gun, and kinda slap a dress on me, leaving me to uncomfortably try and adjust it, without them noticing. are xrays flying around wildly, through my body and into my balls kinda thing? and what do they do to you?

i dont want to go impotent. if i go into the hospital again, i will invest in a pair of lead underpants. :|

and hey. what if someone breaks their hip? thats like impotency for sure.

basically it emits gamma rays, which those lead vests still do hardly nething to protect you, becuase gamma rays take a TON of material to deplete, they will go through skin, concrete (a ways, but not to far).

alpha rays will go through your penetrate your skin, but not go all the way through

beta are harmless and very weak.

gamma, which is what x-rays emit are the most powerful.

someone correct me if i am wrong. but they can do a good amount of damage.

I thought they emitted x-rays.... not gamma rays.

think about it; the technichian does the tests ALL day, so of course its better for them to "hide" behind the door, etc. Meanwhile, you get a lead vest to momemtarially protect you. You're only supposed to get a certain amount of radiation total throughout your lifeltime; this includes all xrays, and radiation therapy, once you exceed this amount (which is noted on your med records), you cannot recieve anymore radiation. At least this is what I was told by a radiation cancer therapy person.

i think you're correct. x-rays don't penetrate as far as gamma rays.

edit: electromagnetic spectrum: xrays and gamma rays are not the same. gamma rays are much more dangerous due to their shorter wavelength and higher energy - i believe that nuclear waste emits gamma particles, and is one of the reasons it's so dangerous.

Fortunately many here will never have a need for them anyways :) and if they do being sterile may be a good thing for the rest of us.

x-rays cannot penetrate lead. they can damage sperm producing cells by mutating dna.
the reason they cover your privates up is to prevent this sort of reproductive damage. Women are more at risk because their eggs are not regenerated. If a mans sperm gets damaged its not a big deal so long as the sperm producing cells are not damaged. If a womens eggs get damaged, she may never have children.
x-rays are highly focused. they can cause damage to tissues they are directed at, but have relatively low risk of causing cancer causing mutations. Frequent hits at the same areas can be bad.

I do work from home all day you realize....so figure I get paid to post :), lately I have been posting a lot more than usual, but still my average is 6.5 posts a day?!? there are many here in the 20's and some 1 year lifers....but it appears math is not your forte.

Regardless, as of this posting I have 7111 to my name...you may need a visit to a eye doc, 7111 vs 7145 is not combination that you could typo.....I hear masturbation causes blindness. Good luck with it.

There's a new theory on what radiation does to you. As others have already said, the technicians are exposed to xrays multiple times throughout the days and days, whereas you just get a few seconds of exposure.

I've never heard of someone going impotent from xrays, but if you wanna believe it, go for it. From what I've heard, impotency is caused by a lack of blood flow or something, and not by radiation (unless you managed to get cancer somehow from the short burst of xrays.

I had a hell of a lot of X-rays in my youth, and have two kids now. I doubt you'll be shooting blanks...

if you were covered with a lead shield you've got no worries.
x-rays do target cells that turn over the fastest, like the sex cells in males and females.

The average person isn't exposed to enough x-rays in their life to do any damage. You get exposed to more harmful radiation in one day at the beach than a lifetime of routine x-rays.

People who work with x-rays every day can get in serious trouble, though. Ironically, the most important area is rarely covered: the neck. The most common (but still very rare) and dreaded effect of x-rays is thyroid cancer.... so, wear your neck shield if nothing else.

xrays near crotch = no chitlens.

Ugh, it's "chilins" fool - 'chitlens' are nasty-ass pork guts.

One or two xrays a year is nothing to worry about; when the xray technician team greets you with a mug bearing your first name on it, then you can start to worry.
