What do these markings mean on the Tbird?

John

I have (3) 750 Tbirds with these markings:

AMD Athlon
A0750AMT3B
ADFA0034UPBW
1999AMD

The cores look blue. I think AFFA was Austin Fab, so is ADFA Dresden?

i was of the understanding that all the tbirds were from dresden. i believe that some of the durons were also made in dresden but now are only made in austin...correct me if i'm wrong

John, I seem to remember the Color indicating which FAB it was from. Yours is Blue correct? I remember Blue and green due to the different way they polish the die. Forget which one is Dresden and which is Austin. I could be wrong but I thought the one that was blue was the coper Thunderbird from Dresden. I could be backwards.

Hope that helps. Will do a search to see if I can find it.

Edit: Got it for you.

From Anand himself.

There has been quite a bit of confusion as to how to tell the aluminum parts (both Durons and Thunderbirds) from the copper parts (Thunderbirds only). The only way we currently know of is by taking a look at the color of the tint on the die, unless you have a Duron (as we mentioned above, all Durons are aluminum).

Copper processors, meaning those made in the Fab30 plant in Dresden, feature a blueish tint to them. Aluminum processors, including Durons, that are made in Fab25 in Austin, feature a greenish tint to them. This may be the opposite of what you may have heard but we confirmed with AMD on the issue.

As they said, Austin also makes some of the lower mhz (less than 850 usually). Durons only come from Austin. Dresden only makes Tbirds.

The core tints are not an exact science either since the Austin plant has changed core colors several times and it is reasonable to believe that perhaps Dresden could change them as well. They use whatever core polish is available at the time and not a set coloring scheme.

Back to the origional question

John,

There is no code in the spec that tells you which fab produced the chip. The only (known) ways is the not-so-exact science of the core tints and of course, testing the chip.

Dresden produced "Blue Meanies" run far above their spec easily, with the Austin produced "Green Weenies" often refusing to go more than 100-150 above spec and even then requiring high voltages to be stable.

I just bought a 900 tbird from Buy Com and it is green, Austin, I am at 1050 @ 1.85v on an Abit KT7(40c).Greg bought 9 900 Tbirds from Buy Com, and all did 1050, and 2 did 1100 .Only the 1.1 and 1.2 are for sure blue, the rest is pot luck. I am happy with 1050, it is fast and smooth
