So I was flying around the other day and on the roofs of buildings I saw helipads with #s 11, 12, 10, 5, and some unmarked. Different buildings had the same numbers too.

read FAA publication titled "Heliport Design, Advisory Circular 150/5390-2A" on page 70, paragraph 60

A distinctive marking, such as the company logo, serves to identify the facility as a private use heliport.

Weight Limitations. Surfaces which are limited in weight-carrying ability should be marked with a number, in thousands of pounds. The marking should be large enough to be legible from the approaching helicopter. The number is located to the right and below the heliport symbol as viewed from the preferred directions of approach.

There weren't any letters and different buildings had the same #.
