What do people use to keep noise levels down?

TechyJono, make up your mind. Do you want your system cool or do you want it to be low noise? Try searching for "noise", "cool" or something like that in this forum and you should be able to find quite a few discussions on this topics. Good luck.

Molson's Golden, and playing UT very loud usually keeps the case noise level down.

someone needs to develope a sound proofing material that allows heat to pass... that person will be rich

V-Block prices are in Canandian Dollars. I've put this stuff in the three cases that I've gotten from AMK.

My own experience tells me that it is all in the parts selection.
start with a case that has really good airflow characteristics, or modify one until it does. Use multiple quiet fans,(or run them at reduced voltage), PSU with temp controlled fan, and a quiet HDD like a WD or IBM. Sacrifice a few Mhz off that radical overclock to use a quiet fan on a large cpu heatsink.

Various sound absorbing materials are useful only as the finishing touch to already quiet systems. Knock 3Dba off of 30, you can tell a difference. Knock 3Dba off of 60, it's still loud as hell.....

The best way to kill noise is to not make it in the first place. It's easy to fall for the idea that more cooling is always better. There is a point of diminished returns, many overclocked fan freak systems are well beyond it. Your ears pay the price for that overindulgence.

I have some questions on that vblack stuff:

Does it dampen all noise? or just vibration noise like dynomat? My problem is noise due to airflow and high RPM fans

Does vblack retain heat like styrofoam? If so, can anyone give me a range on temp incresse should you line your whole case with it? thanks

Techwhore:

They say that the v-block is like dynomat and reduces vibration, but I have noticed that it does have some sound damoening qualities. As far as heat retention, I have not noticed a meaningful increase in the case or cpu temp.s.

Hmm, i'll stay away, thanks for the info though... i just need some miracle material :), that damn delta 38 cfm fan can be heard over all 9 of my other fans... maybe it's time to make some changes
