what do people drink alcohol for?

It's an acquired taste. Many people don't like alcohol when they first try it. Just like a lot of kids hate tomatoes.

Personally, I like sipping a whiskey or having a beer or wine with dinner or to relax. People incapable of appreciating adult beverages are missing out.

Are you kidding!!?? Jack Daniels is damn good! The charcoal mellow flavor is unique. The jack you drink is aged 5 to 6 years and that's where it gets its coloring. I used to be a huge rum drinker, but that stuff makes me awfully sick anymore.

Jack Daniels's taste is awful just like any other whiskies. I would drink Jack Daniels just to be drunk, not for taste.

Hey, he kind of looks like me when I drank!

Hey, he kind of looks like me in 20 years if I go back to drinking!

Whoa! This looks like me in 25 years if I go back to drinking!

Party time!

So your aim of drinking alcohol is not to be drunk. You drink to relax?

I always drank it to stop thinking about shit. Turns out if you need it for that it ends up doing you more harm than good though.

I drank for many reasons but NEVER for the taste alone.

1.) To forget bad things like death, stress, relationship problems etc. etc.

2.) To cut the edge after a long day or event.

3.) At a function or party to cut the nervous edge of talking and interacting with people. Alcohol made me more talkative and relaxed. Conversation flowed better.

4.) Boredom

5.) To celebrate an important event like a birthday party of christening etc.

Just a few reasons off the top of my head.

I use to get drunk quicker when I was younger due to inexperience and youthful ego. If I get drunk these days its because I really want to due to my feelings at the time. If I have an important event the next day then I would either NOT DRINK at all or just get a mild buzz. Nothing worse than attending an important social event with an enormous hangover.

So you drink little because you dont wanna be drunk. Just a little bit alcohol to relax. When you go further, it turns into getting drunk.

How old are you? Drinking doesn't place a person into a binary state of not-drunk/drunk.

But yes, the phrase goes "drinking in moderation". Those who have experience drinking responsibly understand their limits and are capable of pacing themselves such that they don't get drunk...or, if desired, perhaps maintaining a slight buzz instead of getting plastered.

Relaxation-Got home at 5 yesterday. Let the dogs out, poured a bourbon and grabbed a beer. Sat down checked all my messages and email, forums etc...went outside and fired the Weber up. Cooked some bacon wrapped shrimp and bake potatoes. Had another beer and and bourbon. Ate dinner at 7 with another beer. 2 bourbons, 4 beers. 8, got in bed fired up Netflix, asleep before 9 and was up at 5. Slept like the dead.

Drunk-firing up the pit to smoke Boston butts for 4th of July on the 3rd. Drinking beer all day and all night because it usually 20hr cook. Take 7am-11am off the morning of the 4th for breakfast. By 12 back to beer and by that night I may be drunk depending on much water I mixed in through out the whole time frame. And that's putting away maybe 30-40beers my self depending on what kind of games and activities...fishing and such we have going on.

If I myself drink, I drink alcohol just to be drunk but some people say that alcohol is not supposed to be drunk to be drunk. What is alcohol supposed to be drunk then? My idea is Alcohol is drunk to be drunk but some dont think that way. I dont suppose its for the taste either because the taste is awful.

I drink to make your mother more attractive.

I am 24 years old. You dont seem to see my point. When you dont drink enough to be drunk nor tipsy, you can feel alcohol's relaxing. For example 2 beers make you relax, 5 beers make you tipsy, 10 beers make you drunk. You drink just a little to relax. You dont go further and you dont get neither tipsy nor drunk. A little bit alcohol means relaxing. Beyond relaxing is tipsy and beyond tipsy is drunk. You dont drink much not to be neither tipsy nor drunk. Your aim is to be relaxed, not to be drunk. You drink accordingly.

It can be delicious and it can make food taste better, so those are the main reasons I drink. I do have a drink on occasion to relax, though I do not drink during the week at all (i.e. work nights). I also look far more attractive when drinking, so sometimes I just drink a bunch and stare at myself in the mirror.

When I drink, I drink just to be stone drunk. When I am stone drunk, I talk to myself by laughing. I like this feeling. Its like talking to the wall.

I dont like alcohol, at all. It tastes god awful ad almost always makes me sick. But when i drink, it is only to get completely shitfaced. none of this "Im relaxing" or amking food taste better BS. Alcohol is a drug that I use every once in a while.

do what you want. your friends aren't the boss of you. just don't be the angry drunk or the guy everyone has to babysit and you're straight.

Yeah, I see your point. Yes, I drink accordingly...in moderation.

edit:
I should clarify that "relaxing" != "tipsy/buzzed". Relaxed just means having a good time and stress free. I enjoy the actual taste of whiskey, wine, beer, etc... I find enjoying the taste of something to be relaxing, no inebriation required at any level. No different than reading a book. (reading a good book with a wine or whiskey is downright blissful).

Yes alcohol is a drug too. Being drunk is also some kind of high. But its not a heavy drug. Its not a heroin. Its okay to use it unless you make yourself an alcoholic. But when I drink, I drink to be stone drunk. If I wont be drunk, why would I drink? I think of it this way. But I also understand the ones who say they drink to relax but I dont understand the ones who say they drink for taste.

I drink for taste.

If you could make me a solid scotch without the booze, I'd drink it. Same with a great IPA.

I actually hate being intoxicated.

I used to like to drink, but the more I did, the more I noticed that buzz feeling went away faster and faster. And more it would take to get to that point.

Taste was def not the reason.

Hard liquor is something I can never even put in my mouth (maybe as a teen).

And the number 1 reason I no longer drink, buzz lasts 15-30 min and is followed by shitty feeling.

not worth it to me

I stand their awful tastes just to be able to get drunk. How can you like their awful tastes? I drink things like pepsi, sprite for taste. How can alcohol be drunk for taste? I use alcohol as a drug.

What do people eat food for? If I myself eat, I eat just to provide my body with nutrition but some people say that food is not suppose to be eaten solely for sustenance. When is food suppose to be eaten then? My idea is food is eaten for nutrition but some don't think that way. I don't suppose it's for the taste either because the taste is awful.
