Relative paid lots of money to have this site designed. He's looking to transfer it to a low cost provider (aka me) to maintain it.

The site was done with Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft ASP .Net 2.0 (Visual Basic 2005), and Microsoft Atlas

So what on earth do I need to do to get this to work with my provider?

I've worked alot with html/css, did some light programming, and am fairly familiar with the concepts...but I've never done something like this before. I know of sql in terms of local servers, but have no idea how it's implemented via the web.

If you could point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.

Well, I would say that the hosting provider you have chosen is incompatible with the website designed barring a complete redesign of the data model.

A Small Orange does not support MSSQL, or ASP.Net. Nor is it IIS-based, which means that Microsoft Atlas likely is out.

You'll need to find a good Windows-based IIS hosting company that has MSSQL available. These generally are not cheap.

That would explain much.

ASO is gonna host my other, less complex *cough* sites, so I guess I look like a jackass now hahaha.

Anything you can recommend?

Godaddy supports everything you need.
1and1 supports everything except the AJAX stuff (or they just don't show it on their site as a feature).
Webhost4life supports everything you need.
3essentials.com supports everything you need.

I've only used godaddy and webhost4life.com and have had good success. You may just want to look at what you want to spend, what the SLA's entail, and possibly search reviews for the various host providers.

I can recommend 1 and 1 they have been very good to work with for me and a email or phone call should sort out any questions you have as to compatibility and pricing.
