What do I need for video recording on my computer

You need a TV card, obviously. Use a PCI card for best flexibility; the latest breed does away with old-fashioned discrete tuners and has gone to using silicon chips for that too. E.g.

This is for standard cable or broadcast TV; no HDTV, no digital.

(As if there weren't enough threads about that already ... Use the search, Luke!)

I would like to record a show on my computer and then watch it later on one of my TV's. What now?

You need a TV card to record, and a graphics card with a suitable output connector to replay (or just to watch in realtime). Standard CRT TVs have RCA or SVideo inputs; flatscreens may also have component, VGA, or DVI. Your call.

2 points:
1) (Assuming you have cable-TV) Is there a cable outlet near your computer? You're going to need to connect the cable to the TV capture card.

2) Is the computer near the TV? You'll need to run a tv-out cable from your video card to the TV.

I dont' have MCE. I have XP Home. Would the 150MCE ver be a problem? Someone recommeneded the ATI Wonder Elite but after reading the reviews i'm running away from that card as fast as possible.

I have xp proffesional and it runs with no problems, but you should download the drivers from the intenet and not the disk that comes with it.

Assuming that you have cable (Dish network or Direct TV by chance?) You need the cable box in the vicinity so that you can hook up the coaxial cable to the back of your pc. Make shure you have a tv tuner and a decent screen and graphics card. Otherwise your efforts will be rendered useless. And the cable or satellite recievers are not cheap. Call your provider

I was also thinking about getting a TV tuner for my computer. However, i've been having a lot of slowdown when trying to watch DVD's on my computer, so i'm a bit worried about watching TV on my comp, do you guys think that it would be better with TV than DVD's? And what about HD tv down the road?

Not trying to hijack your thread or anything...just have a few more questions about this subject!
