also, a hookah would be a cool investment.... even people that dont smoke seem to love hookahs, and you can smoke them inside because the smell goes away relatively quick.

wtf is a hookah?

Its like a big bong, but you smoke legal stuff out of it called sheesha. Its like flavored tobacco with basically no nicotine. Its awesome to have in the center of the room and just have everyone puff, puff, pass. Girls seem to love it too, even ones that are disgusted with cigarettes/cigars.

A) if you live in a dorm it's a bad idea to have something that big that clearly says "I AM A STONER"
B) Only fscking weird people smoke stuff other than weed out of a hookah. The whole idea of smoking something 'for the fun of it' that doesn't get you messed up is just stupid.

uhh..smoking other stuff (tobacco) it doesnt get you messed up..but its just something different...do you always do everything just to get MESSED up?

Well, personally this is what I have for my room:
(Dibs on best dorm room ever!)
(If I can get good pics I'll post later)

Private room
All wood is covered in Terpoline (sp?) material, black (A lot of work)
(One wall has a built in closet area, with two closets, 8 drawers in middle, two cubbies for computers, and a large space above 8 drawers in middle for the tv/stereo)
Dark blue carpet
Dark/Light blue couch and love seat
Retro-style computer chair
Bunk beds
Antique table in front of couch/tv (closet has area for TV/radio)
Kenwood reciever (My RCA broke :( )
Sony 5 disc changer
Four Aiwa speakers, two below and two placed above
Two kicker 15's in a very large box also covered in terpoline (fitted for a jeep)
Sony Playstation 2
Nintendo Gamecube
Microsoft X-Box
SNES/Sega/Atari 2600
VCR / DVD Player
21" TV (All that'll fit in leftover area)
Two neon beer signs (red/blue/yellow) on either side of the room (Used for lighting, the overhead 8 ft light is too bright)
My computer with Scorpio 868w case, 17" monitor
Klipsch Promedia speakers, set up in four corners of room, using amp to power two 12" audiobahns rather than stock subs (The stock subs lose their pizazz in a cement room)
A triple-light stand, silver, with movable lights
A tri-stage mirror behind the couch that looks cool
Backlit cabinets in blue (for the cabinets w/ speakers and my tv/stereo)
Telephone/Alarm clock

Bathroom:
Curve and Intuition Cologne
Old Spice soap
Orange bottle of face wash, nuetrogema?
Aussie hair gel
Murphie's Pomade
LA Looks hair gel
Mach 3 Turbo razor
Electric razor (suite mates, I use it for the... more complicated areas ;P)
Really cool in-shower cd player from Sharper Image (Thing is very nice! Expensive, but nice!)
Small cabinet to hold hair gel/razor/soap
Pert Plus shampoo
Toothpaste/Mouthwash

Yup... I really need to get pictures, it's very impressive. The R/A was reluctant at first to let me cover the wood in terpoline (I stapled the material to the wood) but the huge wooden cabinet was just ugly! The material is about $22/yard, my carpet was about $250, the couches were given to me, a friend of dad's owed him a lot of money.
I also ripped the inside of the couch for storage of alcoholic products, as it is illegal on campus. But they're not allowed to search inside things during the room checks. There is also a supplied small refridgerator, but it's pathetic...And I have to cook things in a microwave at the end of the hall, I'm not allowed to bring anything to cook on.

My room is pimp, can't wait till I get a house...It'll r0x0r!

Well youre supposed to get a small buzz from sheesha but its more of just a chillin thing. It tastes really good. a lot of people like cigars, but that doesnt get you messed up. are they wierd ?

Very helpful. Even though the schools computer labs have them, they charge 10cents a page I believe, plus you have to go to them everytime you want to print something.

Are you fvcking joking?

I never owned a printer in college. It didn't seem like a valuable investment considering the abundance of higher-quality printers everywhere on campus. I was never at a loss to find a printer either in the library, a lab, a classroom, or a friend's room.

I got by 4 years without one, and I think I managed to do it without imposing on my roommates too much. There were definitely times when it would have been nice to have a decent printer. If your parents are paying or if you can get one for a decent price, go for it. Otherwise, just use the computer lab and library printers.

Look, I said this on a similar thread about 2 years ago and I'll say it again.

PACK ONLY WHAT YOU NEED. ONLY WHAT YOU NEED, ONLY WHAT YOU NEED!!!!!

That means:
-Clothes: (summer/fall clothes, and a few winter assortments.) You'll probably go home at least once before winter really hits, so there isn't a reason to bring all of your clothes. Having heavy coats and sweaters in late fall in a pain, because you run out of places to put them. Bring a couple sets of dress clothes, too. You never know when you might have to attend a banquet for something, or visit a theater/art museum for a class.
-Computer: Computer labs SUCK. You want you own, with your own printer. Don't let anyone know you have a printer, though. They'll be bothering you every 5 seconds to use it, and won't pay for ink and paper.
-TV/Stereo/Games: Talk with your roomate before you go. I laughed when I saw two roomates show up with a 27 inch TV each. Needless to say, one of them had to call a parent to come get their's. You probably don't need a stereo either. Most computers have better sound quality than most stereos. Only bring one game system. ONE. Chances are that the friends you make will have other ones, and you really don't have much shelf space to put systems in most dorms.
-bed sheets: Wash them a couple of times before you go. They'll feel better. Don't bring a heavy comforter, because most dorm rooms stay quite warm to begin with. You aren't billed for electricity, so if you get cold, crank the heat ;)
-shampoo, soap, washcloth, 2 towels, asprin, toothbrush, toothpaste.
-Money for groceries and other equipment.
-Optional: If your dorm does not have them, you may want a mini-fridge and microwave, but I suggest buying them once you get there, as some places near colleges will sell them cheaper.
-School supplies: The college bookstores are ALWAYS expensive.
-Put all your CDs and DVDs in a CD binder or something... leave the ones you won't listen to at home. having 200 jewel cases takes up space. Make sure you have some place to lock them though, because they would be easy to swipe if you leave your room for a moment.

All the other crap you think you need... you don't.

If you take too much crap you will end up making a trip home within a few weeks to take some back. Worst case scenerio, if you need something, you can have it sent with someone that comes visiting or have it mailed. A lot of dorm rooms become very cramped very fast, as there usually aren't shelves or cabinets, and desks are small.

Many schools have started charging to use lab printers, because people will happily print off entire books if there isn't anything to stop them. Not only that, but the lab printers usually get broken because people don't know how to use them, and there are always lines to use them. Don't expect to be able to print a report at the last minute in a lab.
Get a cheap printer, you don't need photo quality.. hell, you probably don't even need color. But like I said in the previous post, DON'T LET PEOPLE KNOW YOU HAVE ONE. They will turn you into their printer whore.

i'm not saying you need to have a fake id or condoms or whatever, just have an open mind to meeting new people instead of memorizing 300 pages of text a night...

but, to add to your checklist, i'd say a nice big duffle bag to take your dirty clothes to the washer/dryer, and i would consider getting a TV tuner card for your computer, and just not even worrying about taking a TV :)
thanks. I'm a teenager though so I'm certain that I know plenty about myself ;) I guess everyone has to learn the hard way.[/quote]
