I just sold my 550e@733 and board. I was planning on waiting a couple of weeks and grabbing a T-bird 750-800 and one of the new socket a boards in hopes of hitting 1Gh. Now that amd is saying that all production T-birds will be clock locked, what should I do? Can you use a GFD on slot T-birds? How well are they overclocking? Should I just get a 700e and BX board? A classic Athlon and GFD? Any suggestions?

Yes, a GFD will work on the Slot A versions of the T-bird. I know the 700 T-Birds supposedly overclock the best. The 800mhz and up T-Birds don't o/c as well so far. If you don't want to wait, I suggest a Athlon 850 and a KA7-100 mobo. I am running 1ghz with no GFD and generic PC-100. A 700E on a BX board will also be fast, I just think that chipset is getting old and is missing some of the features that are on alot of the newer chipsets. I love my KA7-100, I had two BX boards before that and they ran great. It just is a matter of preference. I finally broke down and built this Athlon system, and I like it much better than the P3 and P2 systems I had. Just my two cents.

I am using a Global Win. I am not sure of the model #, but I got it from the card cooler. You can check it out on their site. It has a large black heatsink and two YS tech fans. I never go above 91F while running the Prime95 torture test, and playing games. It is smaller than the Vos32, but it works real well.
