what do broken capacitors do?

my heatsink fell off .. fortunately the machine was off at the time .. but i think it might have hit some of the capacitors on my kt7a on the way down .. the board doesnt boot now .. it gets power, but no beeps, no post, etc.. anyone have any ideas what else i might look at before i try and get a replacement?

You may have also damaged some of the traces....get a magnifier and take a look. If that's the case, you're hosed.

You may also have scored or chipped/cracked the die of the processor. If that's the case, you're hosed.

Bending/breaking a filter or glitch capacitor shouldn't kill the operation of the board, it might run goofy, but it's still at least try to boot (more often than not).

well it came off when i put the case down on my bed (was getting home from a lan party) .. so it was horizontal at the time .. as for the cpu, i know its fine since i swapped my 1200 for a 750 on another kt7a (broke the socket clip...) when i opened the case the heatsink was just a bit off the socket .. so i dont see how it could have damaged much of anything but the capacitors..

is there anything else that would cause it to power up, but not beep or post? ive tried different ram, moving the video card, removing everything else, etc..

either way im not hosed, its under warranty .. i just wont tell them whats wrong with it, i doubt they'll come and take my new board away if they find something wrong ;p

man im an idiot. i put a 750 in a board configured for 1333.. geez. youd think it would at least beep or something ;p

least i realized the problem and saved myself from being exposed as an idiot by someone else...
