What disto of linux to run for crunching D2OL?

I have not used Linux much. (I am a BSD guy 😛) But I have decided I will give it another shot. (Used redhat about 4 years ago) So what do you guys consider the easiest/best driver support/fastest distro out there? I will be installing it on a 30gig HD and a 800MB HD....

Also is there any linux drivers for realtek nics?

I read over on the D²OL boards that it really doesn't matter what distro you use. I'm not a linux person, but I think if you asked this over in the OS forum you'd get quite a bit of help on which distro has the best hardware support/ease of use.

Redhat or Mandrake are two good ones to start with; I started with Redhat, and after learning on it for a while (be prepared to reinstall several times at first; if you learn like I did, you'll break a lot of stuff in the beginning and not know how to fix it 🙂).

SuSe is also good, no?

It was my second linux distro and I found it very easy to use and setup
I don't really know anything about Suse, mainly because the distro is so large that it's impractical for me to download on my slow connection. If Suse works ok for you, and you're familiar with it, it will be as fine as any other distro for running a DC program. You just need to make sure that you're running a recent kernel, and preferrably, if you know how, recompile it to remove excess drivers that are not needed.

I just loaded Mandrake 9.0... very nice. I started with RH 5.1, went to caldera and then stayed with Mandrake after 6.0. Basically all versions have about the same hardware support, maybe RH, SuSE and Mandrake have the most.
