Ok basically following the midrange build guide for this week (i5 4690k, xfx R9-290x, etc.) with a z97 Pro4 MB since I was able to get one + an i54690k from microcenter for $250.

I need to know what some good peripherals + display to get. Mouse and Keyboard just want bang for the buck, I assume there is a "no brainer" out there right now.

The displays seem all over the board I can't figure out whats really needed. I don't mind spending more for something really better that my setup can handle. I like the idea of a 21:9 screen but not sure how good they are for gaming (especially for the expense) and not sure if an i5 + r9-290x is good enough for 3440x1440 gaming.

I'd probably want either a 34" 21:9 or a 27-30" 16:9.

Thanks!

What is your budget for display/peripherals? The sweet spot for single GPUs is still probably 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. You can find very nice 23-24'' displays in that category for 150-300 USD.

Just depends, I don't think I'm going to notice a difference between a 1ms response and 2ms response screen and not sure refresh rate of 144hz is a dramatic difference (I don't have a real way to test out though). So if I went with a 1080p 16:9 screen I'd probably not want to spend more than $300 and go with a 27". But this is where I'd like some advice and whether the gsync and other features for another $200 is really a big difference.

I do like the 21:9 so wouldn't mind spending $500+ on one assuming my setup could handle it, it looks like I'd need to go with a 1080p instead of 1440p though, maybe something like the LG 34um64-p?

Would even consider spending more on a curved one if there were any under a grand (which there are not as far as I can find right now)

I don't really play fps games, currently playing Pillars of Eternity, Alien: Isolation, Heroes of the Storm/LOL, Witcher 3 when it comes out, etc.

I don't think I would jump on a 21:9 screen without having tested it with all my programs and games first. You never know when the screwy aspect ratio will bite you on a program that you consider to be essential.
