Having a camera with a 3X optical zoom... I'd look for something with a higher optical zoom when I get a new one... I know Olympus makes some that aren't insanely priced, although I think they're out of your 200-250 range.

It's a nice camera, I have one. Definitely one of the best for the price, and has the most manual controls for the price. A70 might be a better choice though; the a75's main benefit is the ability to print directly to a Canon printer with the feature that supports it; if you don't have a newer Canon printer that supports this, or if you'd rather see your photos on something bigger than a 1.8" lcd screen and possibly edit your photos first, it's not a terribly useful feature. Oh, iirc the other difference is a 1.8" screen on the a75 vs. 1.5" on the a70. Minor, really. The a70 is $200 this week somewhere or other, was it Amazon? Sweet deal.

spend a little extra money and go with the canon a80! its WELL worth the extra money in the long run. Go to the store and play with both and you will see what i mean. If you cant get the extra money then def get the A75.

well i was considering the A80, but i dont really want to spend that much money right now. but if it is worth it in the long run, then i think i'll have to re-consider.

whats the difference between the A70 and the A75? i thought the A75 was an upgrade, wouldnt it be better than the A70?

I have the Olympus C-4000 and it has 3X optical zoom. 3X is good for when you're hanging out with your friends, but I went to the zoo yesterday and I couldn't get good shots of some of the animals that were farther away. A few weeks back, I was at my cousin's graduation and 3X wasn't enough for the crappy seats I had. Plus, the camera is kinda big, which I don't like because it doesn't fit in my pants pocket.

my advice is to get a small point and shoot digital camera (Olympus Stylus 300 or pay a little more for the Stylus 410) if you wast want to use it to take pictues when you go places fun.

if you want more features then get the Olympus c-740. it has 10X zoom and is $300 from newegg.

A75 isn't so much an upgrade as it is the 'new' a70; ie. an updated version. Like the next model year of a successful car model. The only two differences that I'm aware of are that the a75 can print to certain Canon printers without going through a computer first, and has a 1.8" LCD screen vs. the a70's 1.5" one. They have the same controls & picture quality.

Canon A60 + 128MB CF for $145 @ amazon

2MP (1600x1200) is fine unless you're planning on making 8x10 prints. $145 is a very good price, still have plenty left over to pick up a case, rechargable batteries, and tripod. A60 is a great starter camera, lots of manual controls to play with.

No point really in trying to upgrade within the Axx series, make your next camera a Sxx or DSLR.
