I currently have a Polaroid PDC700 I have decided I am tired of this camera. What I am looking for is something slightly smaller and better resolution A.K.A. best bang for the buck camera :) does anyone have any suggestions to what would be a good deal for a camera? As of right now the A40 is looking really attractive.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks,

That's the digicam I have. Loving it. Only thing I wish it had is more zoom (would really love 10X optical, the A40 has 3X optical)

Do you have any pics that you have taken with the camera that I could see? I would like to see the quality of the pics cuz i was disappointed in mine but then again it was a cheap wal-mart camera heh

What's your budget?

This is the BEST DAMN 2 megapixel digicam in it's class and these reviews practically speak for themselves:

PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS
imaging-resource.com (with sample pictures)
dcresource.com (with sample pictures)
steves-digicams.com (with sample pictures)
dpreview.com (97 owner's ratings almost 5 out of 5 stars in every category)

CONSUMER REVIEWS
ePinions.com (100% recommended by 8 reviewers)
Amazon.com (4.8 out of 5 stars with 39 customer reviews)
CNET.com (8 out of 10 stars with 95% positive reviews)

My brother just bought his wife the a40. I actually did the research for him and the reviews looked really good for this camera. I've only used it briefly but the build quality was solid and the pics were good.

The only thing I couldn't figure out was if the flash could be adjusted (low, med, high??). We noticed when the flash went off in AUTO, it made people's faces too white. When we put it in manual, everything seemed OK. Just was curios to see if this could be adjusted.

I have the sony dsc-s85 and really like it as well. You can get the s75 for 399.99 (or cheaper online). But it is probably bigger than you want.
If you haven't already, go to www.dpreview.com and take a look in the canon forums to see what others say about the a40.

hope this helks.

The site in my signature (jiggawatts) every picture there was taken with my A40. The first ones I ever took with the camera are that of the computer mods (my first time ever using a digicam and I think I had some settings off :) )

I'm looking at within a $300 range. I am looking for a camera that is not bulky and so far the only downside I see to this camera which I played with at Wal-Mart last nite :D was the smaller lcd screen but I can deal with it. :) I'm still in the pondering stage of getting this camera found it for 226 on ibuyer.net but if i get too antsy I just might go buy it at wal-mart along with a bigger memory card!

Yep, if you wanted to get the A40 right now the cheapest places (at actually stores) are Sears.com and Walmart.com (for ~$250). If you can hold out however I'm sure Officemax.com will get it back in stock and it can be had there for ~$200 with use of a coupon

Although I don't consider the Canon PowerShot A40 to be bulky (it's the perfect size to hold in your hands AFAIC) you should also consider the smaller Canon PowerShot S200, Fuji Finepix 2600 and 2650. My only gripes about the Fuji's are the 2600 takes SM and 2650 takes xD media. The Canon takes cheap and widely available CF media.

Canon A40 quite simply rocks. You could easily find it for $250, use the other $50 to pick up some rechargeable batteries and a 128MB CF card.

Nice pics. Except for the cat. What happened? Or maybe I don't want to know. Hope he/she is doing better now.

don't get the 2600 or 2650z. they are crap. i used to have one but i sold it, image quality of the 26xx is good, but it sucks really bad in dark lighting and its still bulky (bulker than most cameras). i recommend the cannon s200 or s230, those babies are dope. A40 is good, but i think they are alittle too big for me, i want to be able to keep my cameras in my pants pockets.

The majority of happy Fuji Finepix owners would disagree with your opinion :D

The Canon S330 is an awesome digicam but I don't need 3MP so I'd probably "downgrade" to an S200/S230 instead.

I got the GF's mother an A40 for X-mas.

It's great, but my only complaint is it has trouble autofocusing in low light situations. To get good pictures, you can't have X-mas candles and moodlighting as your room lighting. Whatever the camera uses to focus can't get the range under such conditions.

Exactly what I did. But I got shafted on Ebay cause I live in Canada and had to pay massive.

The S330 is 2MP, but 3x optical
While the S230 is 3MP 2x optical

My wife got me the Canon s230 for xmas and i love this thing. An extra battery and at least a 128mb cf card are a must add on though. It retails for 399 but she got it on dell last month for around $340.
