H) did i mention it's small?
I) 3.2 megapixels in a pack of cigarettes?
J) Li-Ion battery pack
K) Movie mode with sound
L) Easy to use
M) Good Focus (3point)
N) smallllllllll

Need i say more? Its a great camera for the price, and the quality of...everything about it can't be beat very easily for the price.
Care to name a few better buys for cameras with those features and quality...and size for the same price?

or the canon s330 (3x otpical, fits in an altoids can, i think) dell.com has it

the camera that fits in a altoid tin is a Pentax Optio S.

that camera 'competes' with Canon's long standing series of 'Elph' cameras, most recently s200, s230, and starting about 4 wks ago, s400.

i got the s400 this week when dell shipped it out, 409.10.

4mpixel, 3x zoom, 11x digital, fast shooting small camera. sharp pics.

I bought an Olympus C-4000Z for $299 (normal price is $449) through an OM Hot Deal right before our second child was born.
Also got a 64 MB SM card for free as part of the deal.

AWESOME camera, altho some folks may not like the standard body design, and might instead be wanting a more compact camera.

The biggest thing the Canon has over the Olympus, IMO, is the ability to go way higher than 128mb.

I'm a big fan of my Olympus C-4000, though. :)

Sony DSC-P9 - 4mp

I've had mine for 8 months and i've loved every minute of it :D

Little over your price range though, they do make a 3mp (P7) version for $100 or so less.

I am considering a similar decision myself. I am looking at getting a 3 megapixel camera for around $300. I was originally thinking that I would get a canon A70, but after checking out the cameras at best buy am I leaning more towards the Nikon 3100. Any thoughts or suggestions? It seems like most review sites give all of the cameras good reviews - so it is hard to really figure out what would be best for me. I plan to mostly do point and shoot, so portability not features is probably more of a concern.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of the Canon A70 vs Nikon 3100.

Canon and Pentax make some very nice ultra compact digicams.

Canon over the Nikon

Canon has the following and nikon misses:

manual focus
faster lens
better ISO speeds
Aperture and Shutter Priority
Spot Metering
Better Focus (imo)

Rossman,
Looking at the comparison it seems that they are pretty equivalent in most of the basic features. I don't know a whole lot about aperture sizes, focal lengths and some of the more advanced features ... but they again seem fairly similar. Is this the same impression that you get from the comparison or am I missing something?

even if you don't know too much about the info you stated, get the canon and learn more. More hands on and you can make better pictures.

Thanks for the opinion everyone. I think that I may go with the A70 after all. You can get it for around $280 at Dell right now with a little help from my friend Ben and his bargains.

YES YES HE HAS SEEN THE LIGHT!
lol

A70 is much nicer than the Nikon 3100. No one mentioned that the A70 has a metal/plastic body, whereas the 3100 only has a plastic body. Considering majority of the body is metal, its more durable. Also, the A70 uses 4 AA batteries as opposed to 2 in the nikon, meaning that it will last longer on a single set. Panorama is on the A70, DiGiC! is on there too..meaning it's faster, better color, etc. Oh and movie clips with sound!! I'd take a canon over a nikon any day when it comes to digital cameras.
