We are but a speck of sand in the vast desert of the universe. There is no guarantee that there would be conflict if we met an alien race, because if we were able to develop interstellar travel, maybe we would by then have grown as a species enough to realize that violence is not the answer to all conflicts.
I'm sorry, but this sort of self important attitude about how we the Humans have inflicted so much horrendous damage to a poor planet who, without our help has survived Meteors, Earthquakes, Forest fires and the continental drift and a thousand other calamities that we could never produce of our own will. How are we so terrible?
We as a race of beings are not so terribly important in the grand scheme of things. We only act as though the planet is here for our convienence, few people I have ever talked to would agree that the Earth is anything other than our private playground, so to speak.
We are merely a genetic anomoly Who's time has not come yet. The Dinosaurs would have produced more methane gas (that is supposed to contribute to the destruction of the Ozone more than any single thing) as they were mostly herbivours then we could possible produce in a lifetime. However their time is past and ours is now. Get over it.
