From about age 8+ I wanted to go into either computers or engineering (not sure what type, never thought about it too much). Then in my first year of college I got the bright idea that I would go into business and get rich.

Now, a year past graduation, and working a job I hate, I just want to marry into money and become a mountain climber or world traveller or some sh!t. As long as I don't have to spend any more time in a cubicle.

Architect, or Astronaut when I was younger. High school I wanted to be a computer scientist. College an EE. After spending some time in the field on a CS co-op I can sure as hell say I dont want to persue it as a career.

Now I am thinking I either want to take over my fathers business (trucking, rigging, and transportation), day trade, race cars, or go in to real estate. Only problem is, I don't know how to day trade, and don't have enough funds to race cars, or go in to real estate.

I'm 29, and have been in the IT field for about 10 years now. I'm very fortunate to make six figures considering I never went to college, but I have busted my butt to be where I am now, and wish I went to college and pursued something I was more passionate about.

For the longest time I wanted to be a police officer, or something related to criminology. My father, retired police/SWAT actually talked me out of it. I wanted to design video games, specifically for Sierra (this was back when I was like 13).

In the back of my mind I've always wanted to do something with music. I have been recording my own material for years, on and off. The only college I applied to when I graduated high school (Berklee School of Music) put me on a waiting list at the time. Since computers came naturally to me, I opted instead to jump into the IT career field instead of wait for acceptance to Berklee... wish I had waited.

All I can say is pursue what you really want to do. Don't regret it like I have.

Explain in details how you are in the IT field without going to college. I am currently debating what major I should get and would like to go to college this fall. Did you educate yourself that much harder than everyone else to make it?

When I was younger I wanted to be a garbage truck driver. I thought it was pretty cool those guys got to hang on the side of the truck. Hahaha!

Other than that I never gave it much thought I guess. Though when I got my first computer in 5th grade, I was hooked, so that kind of let me to where I am today.

First thing I can remember wanting to be was a chef. Then it was a stand up comic, up until I was 13 or so.
Then I had no ambition. Now I'm a web developer, just kinda fell into it. It's funny (to me) that I spent so much time on computer stuff my whole life, yet never thought that's what I'd do for a living.

up until 16 - pilot (nearsightedness shot that down when I tried to enlist)
16 - 22 - astronaut (went to school for aerospace engineering, found out engineering != actual flying)
23 - now - anything that would not require me staring at computer and keyboard sitting on my a$$ all day long but that's exactly the kind of job I ended up with
If I could, I want to be a chef now.

wow - archaeologist seems to be a popular one.

Blame Indiana Jones for that

I got in before the craze began - I grew up in the 70's. My dad always liked ancient history, and always had archaeology magazines and books lying around the house.

A scare-crow when I was 3. I guess I liked the idea of scaring birds... which is sad because thats not hard to do.
