When I was real little: I wanted to be an archaeologist and dig up pyramids, Indian bones, and stuff. Being a fireman would have been ok, too.

ages 8-12 I wanted to be an architect. As a matter of fact, I still want to be an architect.

ages 12-25 I wanted to direct movies. As a matter of fact, I still want to direct movies.

ages 25-33 I wanted to write video games. I don't want this one any more at all.

ages 34-present I want to retire early and do a lot of hiking.

Age 3-12: Car carrier truck driver. Obsessed with cars. :D
Age 12-19: Video game designer. Not as cool as I thought it would be.
Age 20-current: Not sure, but I am in IT and LOVE it.

Up until 4th grade a Navy pilot, glasses ruined that dream early on.

In high school I had no idea, farmer was probably closest to my hippie dreams.

After 4 years as an avionics tech in the Navy I started college with the intent to be a business major but changed to geology early on and that is what my degree is in.

If I could have my dream job even after a long career in IT it would still be either as a field geologist or some type of farming.

5-10 pro baseball player (not even close to good enough)
11-15 fireman (figured out its low pay and dangerous)
16-18 veterinarian (was fired from my 1st job assisting for eating a dogs bread - long story)
19-24 Network Admin (changing my mind now...)
25* present (thinking about going into Real Estate, but not sure where to start)

result - i'm back to square 1 after a 4 year degree BS IT and a couple certs

In a hard rock/metal band. I realize this dream is a little dumb, but thats what I really want. However, I played it safe and went to college and graduated in EECE, and am trying to make something out of that career path (I work in the oil field right now and dont like my job).

For the longest time as a child and my younger years, a race car driver!
probably because:

I actually WAS racing then

After I "retired" from youth racing, I still wanted to either drive, be a crew chief, or design cars/saftey equipment.

After college - I was torn between automotive engineering/ computers and IT. I am currently in IT, so I guess that won.

*ADVICE* for the younger ATOT crowd. In Scoobmasters opinion, the secret to being successful in life is *NOT* measured in the amount of $$ you bring home! Instead, find something you LOVE to do and are PASSIONATE about and find a way to make a comfortable living doing that. (disclaimer - "comfortable living" is a variable that is different and unique to each individual)

Bottom line, given a choice between BIG $$ and a career I would LOATHE or a decent but mediocre salary in a field I enjoy........ well you now know what I would choose ;)

When I was really young, I am told, I wanted to be a police car. When I was old enough to understand things a bit better, I wanted to be an Architect. While I still think it would be cool to design my own house, Cal Poly SLO showed me I didn't want to go to school for it.

i remember wanting to be a pilot for the longest time. at one point i wanted to be a writer and write books, and i still do to some degree, but i don't have the ability to do that.
I can come up with great ideas for what i want the story to be about but i can't do the actual story and fill it with content.

I'm 29, and have been in the IT field for about 10 years now. I'm very fortunate to make six figures considering I never went to college, but I have busted my butt to be where I am now, and wish I went to college and pursued something I was more passionate about.

For the longest time I wanted to be a police officer, or something related to criminology. My father, retired police/SWAT actually talked me out of it. I wanted to design video games, specifically for Sierra (this was back when I was like 13).

In the back of my mind I've always wanted to do something with music. I have been recording my own material for years, on and off. The only college I applied to when I graduated high school (Berklee School of Music) put me on a waiting list at the time. Since computers came naturally to me, I opted instead to jump into the IT career field instead of wait for acceptance to Berklee... wish I had waited.

All I can say is pursue what you really want to do. Don't regret it like I have.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be the antichrist :Q

I told this to a dumb girl who went home crying and complained to her parents who in turn complained to their priest and who in turn called up my parents.

That put an end to it.

A fighter pilot... until I was told my eyesight was not good enough.

After that, I was not sure what I wanted to be. An architect? A detective? A programmer?

I ended up being a sysadmin because I (used to) like computers. I'm not sure that I still do. I tend to think now that my ultimate career goal is a CIO/CTO/CISO type position... but honestly, I'd be content with something that was fulfilling and paid well enough to provide for my family.

6-11 Astronaut
12-16 Astrophysicist
17-21 Investment Banker (working on wall st.)
Currently: Either an Investment Banker if I can or go to law school to become a lawyer.

I think it's amusing how as my hormones began to rage more and more I decided to pick jobs that would make me more money (and more women as a result)...

I need to re-prioritize :(
