250 or so at Helzburgs I think.

The actual wedding ring was 30 bucks.
For both of ours. 😀

I told the wife she can have a kick ass wedding ring or a house.
She wisely took the house.

smart man. That's what I would have done. 😀

Make sure to shop around and compare..

That's what I figure my budget will be for approx. a 1 carat in another few years.

$890 with coupon at Blue Nile for a .5 carat, SI2, ideal cut. I have yet to see that kind of price again on Blue Nile.

EDIT: Got fatcash back, too!

$5500 for 1C in NYC w/cert. I catch my wife still staring at it from time to time and that makes it worth it 🙂

mine was purchased at a diamond dealer who usually doesn't deal with the general public. my fiance paid about 1/3 of the retail (we got the appraisal for insurance purposes).

definitely shop around and compare. ideally, it's best to see what the diamond looks like.

and pay close attention to the 4 Cs (carat, clarity, color, cut).

The 5 C's are Actually:

CASH - how much money do you have-
and the rest in no particular order:
Cut
Color
Clarity
Carat

PSA: diamonds are used in engagement rings whether they are precious or not.

Ok, fine but after you figure out how much cash you have, the other C's become important if your goal is to get the best diamond for your particular budget. Saying that there is no particular order is setting oneself up for problems or disappointment down the road. The average person knows so little about diamonds and how their value is determined. Unfortunately, some of the industry uses this to take advantage of the consumer?s ignorance. It never hurts to educate oneself, especially considering the amount of money in a typical engagement ring purchase.

yeah, but the diamond trade is precious. Its basically solely run be DeBeers.

yes....its obviously easy to create artificially supply shortages and artifical demand when you control source, distribution, POS and marketing.

Im going to try and avoid supporting that raquet if I can convince a futture SO to select an equally expensive alternate stone.
