the year was 1999 a sophomore in college the vehicle was a 1983 chevy blazer full size with 4x4 transmission. great truck, still have it recently restored it (new paint/apulstery) i drive a 1997 tahoe now 🙂 the tahoe has more miles than the blazer hehe.
my first car in 1998 was a '92 Dodge Intrepid..result of a parental upgrade as well..good car but didnt last wrong because of two accidents, one my fault that resulted in a repair and one a year later that wasn't my fault, resulted in a total
1981 Camero Z28 with 350 engine. Fun 🙂
Mom bought if rom older brother after he couldn't make payments. She drove it for like month, then had it repainted and restickered and parked it in the garage until I got my license. While totally 80s (I was in HS in the late/early 90s) that thing was a blast and the total envy of most guys at my school (while they drove porsches and such). Brake stands are fun!
I got my driver's license in '94. The first car that I got to drive like it was mine was an '86 Ford Escort, but I didn't own it, my father did. The first car that I bought was in '97, and it was an '88 Honda Prelude.
It's seems like that was forever ago and/or my memory is foggy... so those model years could be off +/- a year.
I drove my mom's old 1993 Mitsubishi Galant for 6 years in high school and through my first 2 years of college. It was a POS, especially in the northern Minnesota snow. It always started though, even in the -30 degree temperatures.
My second car, which I'm driving right now and paying for myself, is a 2006 Subaru Impreza. Bring it on, snow.
18...i had no need for a car until i started college in 1997
It was a 1988 Plymoth Sundance in need of help...in '99 I upgraded to a '95 Dodge Stealth...and after that was destroyed in a hit and run....I upgraded to a 1980 Porsche 911...
This was back in '78, of course. I replaced it 4 years later with a '69 Tbird sporting a 427 Thunderjet.Awsome car for parking with girls... wraparound rear upholstery.
Originally I was going to drive an 80ish Buick Century, but when I poked a hole through the rusted trunk with my finger my parents decided on getting a 99 Chevy Monte Carlo instead. My parents both hate driving it, so they've given it to me. It's been a pretty good car, and I'll probably be keeping it for a while.
Look in publications like the "I Wanna" or "Penny Pincher" (the name it has will vary on your location in the USA. But they are usually for sale at convenience stores and are where people can place their for sale type ads).
I've seen some real cheap cars for sale around universities. For sale by student, whether due to money problems or graduation, Summer break whatever. If there is a university town near you, check out the student newspaper etc.
I bought my first car when I was 13 yrs old. It was towed to my house, the engine parts came in boxes (except for the block). It was 1963 Austin Healy 3000 Mark III. Took a year or two to put together and fix up etc. Back then you could drive during the day when you reached 15 yrs old.
I got a 93 Toyota Camery. Very good car, except the engine blew up on me and started a fire that melted my hood and burned to the floor while parked on campus parking lot.
