What did 'they' think we would do?

What was the point of the WTC attacks (not to mention the other attacks against America by bin ladin)? Did they think we would ever stop until this evil is destroyed? They should have realized that we wouldn't roll over and die, that we wouldn't just sit there and say, "oh my god this is horrible, i must over throw my own government, and start chaos in the street"? They must have known that we would retalliate with everything we have. So this draws a new question, do they think they could ever win? They could (and most likely will) do this again to us or our allies, but all that would do is enrage us. It will never stop, we will never stop. They say they have thousands of people waiting to hijack airplanes and to attack America and her interests. So what? They could kill thousands and thousands of Americans, but it would NEVER kill America as a country. This isn't a war against a country that could attack us and take over the US, it is a war against a group of individuals that destory their own people (not to mention their own religion). We will win this war, and we will show the world that United States will NEVER stop. They have awakend a sleeping giant just like the Japnesse did during WWII and even know it took time and a lot of people died, we won. And we will win this war as well. Any intelligent person can tell we are not attacking a religion or just one race, we are attacking the idea of all terrorists and their followers. Did/do they think they could win against our military (let alone our ideology)? The only problem I see, is what do we do after we take out bin ladin and his group? We can never again turn a blind eye to the problems of the world (or the threats), we can no longer sit back and say "well thats over there, why do we need to spend money on their problems?". It is no longer a problem over there, it is a problem that we need to do everything possible to fix (either by money, military, or diplomaticly, or nothing if doing something will only make it worse), because there is always going to be war and oppression. There is always going to be someone some where that hates just to hate. And we as Americans can no longer say, well thats their problem. Its all of our problems (not just the US but all of the powers in NATO, UN and other global organizations). We will win, America will live on, those fallen will never be forgotten. It is up to our and younger generations to start thinking about the world problems and how to fix them. Not just, hey we are America, we can do what ever we want, because we can not make that mistake again.

Just a thought, thanks to anyone who has read this.

Uhm, maybe those terrorists did expect the US to attack because that appears to be the only thing the US does after an attack against them?

The terrorists attack (WTC + Pentagon), the US strikes back, but can't do any serious damage because all of those terrorist-cells are spread over the whole world, then the terrorists continue their attacks against the US, in ways we don't know of yet. Their attacks will continue for a long time, until the US starts to weaken because the whole social and economical structure becomes disrupted. The 'giant' struggles to stay on its feet, but eventually collapses, defeated by an invisible enemy.

That's one scenario we might see come true the next few months. It's not so unlikely either, if you consider that the US has actually nothing and no one to strike against. Sometimes it just sucks to be the giant.
