What did I probably do, and how bad is it?

Ok, middle of the night. Can't sleep.

Yesterday, about 6pm - I was at the gym at a yoga class. I was in a seated forward fold easing forward. Suddenly, I had white hot pain in my lower back and I was done. It felt like a sudden pop - then white hot for a second.

Now I can barely get out of bed or in bed. I can't rotate well or hinge my body at my lower back without tons of pain. I'm thinking I may not be able to make it through work tomorrow.

What have I likely done? I've taken ibuprofen, hot bath, etc.

At the moment it happened, it was pretty white - like a sudden flash. Now I have to 'roll out of bed' or face 'bad pain'. I can't hinge without bad pain.

Surprise butt sex?

I think you may have just pulled a muscle. Herniated discs usually come from lifting too much weight improperly. If it doesn't seem to be getting better after a few days, or you literally can't move, see a doctor.

had a similar problem at the beginning of the year. Had to crawl to the bathroom. Passed out from pain when I tried to stand up (didn't even know that was possible). Lortab didn't do a thing. Went to a chiro the next day after I could move a little bit and it was a misaligned hip and a rib out of place. Hope you get better soon

It's probably a bit early for an MRI, but it may be in the OP's future...

IMO, this is the kind of thing that would be best treated by a chiropractor...they'll take x-rays, and if everything looks ok, they'll start with some ultrasound, diathermy, and/or muscle stim, usually with some heat packs.
Then, an adjustment...but don't expect one trip to solve the problem...it almost never does. IME, be prepared to go in a couple of times per week for a couple of weeks minimum...

HOWEVER, if you go visit your primary care physician, he'll probably give you pain pills and send you home...you MIGHT be sent for x-rays...or not. MOST insurance companies would prefer to see an MRI order come from someone with M.D. attached to their name instead of D.C. (but chiros can/do order MRIs and get them approved...your insurance may differ)

Muscle spasm? I get that sometimes from unusual back movements.
Or from normal ones sometimes; just simple things like brushing my teeth or sneezing can trigger a spasm that lasts for a day or so before it decides to go away.
