Do yourself a favor and get a Sega CD and the complete Working Designs library.

They are:

Lunar The Silver Star
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue
Vay
Popful Mail

And a RGB input equipped CRT of course.

I wish Working Designs was still around.

If you go the SegaCD route - Pier Solar is good too (RPG - homebrew but done on a very professional level).

http://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en/factory/pier-solar_1/

Although it looks like they are planning on porting it to other consoles as well.

EDIT: I just read they did a HQ version of it on Xbox/DC and PC - it's on Steam Greenlight at the moment.

Didn't see it listed in the thread, but Landstalker was a fun game.

Also Beyond Oasis and Sword of Vermilion.

CD is only for enhanced audio companion. Game itself is a Genesis cart that has FM audio also if Sega CD isn't used.

A good game for the Sega CD if you have one is Final Fight. It runs better than the bogged down super nintendo version. And has Poison in it.

Shining Force II is one of the best strategy/turn-based RPG's ever made.

Landstalker is a fantastic action RPG, and I replay it every couple of years.

Dang....I can remember shelling out like $200 (I think?) when SegaCD first came out. It came with some sort of 'bonus CD'....all I can remember is it played some Hendrix tune and had some wacky LSD-like graphics....wish I could find that somewhere.

Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed the Genesis way back then:
-Populous
-Toe Jam and Earl
-Bubsy
-Arnold Palmer Golf
-Alex Kidd
-Space Harrier II - awesome!
-Spider Man Vs. The KingPin - I never did get to defuse the bomb at the end *shrug*
-Target Earth - Tried it a while ago on an emulator & KB+Mouse......lol it didn't go well
-Desert Strike
-Sonic
-Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse - loved the graphics
-Chakan
-ESWAT
-Herzog Zwei - lots of fun!
-Ghouls n Ghosts - Quite challenging...never did 'beat' it
-Fantasia - great graphics, but the controls sucked
-James 'Buster' Douglas Knockout Boxing - lol
-Night Trap - omg it was pretty bad, but had Dana Plato in a nighty. It seemed it was highly controversial back then too

There's more of course..........unfortunately I had to sell everything way back when I needed the money....got rid of an Intellivision about the same time too :(

Edit: found it!

I don't think anyone's mentioned Ristar yet. I had a lot of fun with that on Genesis.

I might be in the minority, but I loved my SegaCD. Sewer Shark was good fun once you figured it out. Double Switch was probably my favorite FMV game. I liked the SegaCD version of Cliffhanger, mainly for the snowboarding level. Eternal Champions was great fun. The Sega CD version of Jurassic Park was extremely excellent, I thought. And I first got in to Wing Commander off the Sega CD version.

I also really liked my 32X that I (ugh) paid $180 for when it was released. Virtua Racing, T-MEK and Star Wars Arcade were great.
