What did i do wrong??? Help on car audio!!

I really need help from the car audio Gurus'.

Everything worked great for me...... till i moved my Amp into my trunk from the front.

I placed my Amp onto a piece of plywood, connected all wires and nothing happened!! My head unit does'nt power up so i can't listed to music!

I did not touch my HU during this process, i just disconnected the Amp and place in my trunk and connect the Amp wiring again.

There is power going to my HU, but it will not power up(no display)!! I can only press the reset button for a few seconds of power(still no display) to it to get the faceplate out. Is my brand new HU a defect?

Please help, thank you. 🙂

I have tried:

1. Changing the HU for a new set!
2. Tried fiddling the wires and checking them if any came out lose.
3. Checked the fuses on my Amp and Power cable to Amp.
4. My battery is not week, my car starts great.
5. Disconnecting my Amp and the RCA and remote start cable to my HU.


I have not tried:

1. Changing the fuses on my Amp.
2. Cutting all the wires to my HU and splicing and connecting them with connectors.
3. Chopping my head off!!!

Try changing the fuses under the dash? One will power the radio and most of the accessories. Look for one labeled "radio" or "acc"

Ok. To troubleshoot ANYTHING, you have to start at square one. Disconnect the amp, then get your HU working first and foremost.

Check the 12VDC+ constant to the head unit with a voltmeter. Make sure you have constant power here. Same with the switched 12VDC+ wire. Next, go from the 12VDC- to the negative battery term and check resistance. you should have a ohm or two. Check all the fuses in your car, including the interior AND power distribution fuses in the engine compartment.

If those check out, and the HU still won't power up, disconnect ALL speaker leads and input leads to your HU. Just leave the power wires connected (constant, switched, and common). It should power up. If not, check the fuse in the HU (Usually on the back of it). If it is good, the HU is suspect. Make sure the faceplate is on correctly, then go from there.

Perhaps out of left field, but does the base of the amp need to be grounded?? Was it screwed to metal before the plywood??

Mine was fine not being grounded like that, but you never know...

grounding is essential... also you may want to try picking up a voltage tester... test the all the wires going to your HU and amp... make sure they are live and nothing got disrupted during the xfer
