What did I break?

I'd suggest you use your nose for finding the problem, thats what i did when i accidently caused a 256MB ram module to fry.

So take the CPU and smell it and else take the motherbaord and smell the socket, the one that burned would have a way stronger burning scent, but if both are equilly strong, its possible both are fried.

Do your fans spin up or do any lights inside the case turn on? Or is it totally dead; you press power and you get no repsonse whatsoever? Because if that's the case, it's probably your power supply. What kind of PSU did you buy? If it's a cheapo one that came with your case, then it's the most likely component to have failed in this case.

I've fried a cheap PSU before and it made a burning smell and smoke.

My fans turn on, the HSF and a couple other fans I have hooked up run fine... does that mean my mobo ISNT fried?

No, but it means that your power supply probably isn't fried, and it gives you more hope that the motherboard is OK. I'm fairly certain it's your CPU at this point. See if you can borrow a friend's CPU or loan him yours to confirm that it is the problem. If you want, mail it to me and I'll test it and mail it back. I've done that before on these boards, it's very helpful.

I don't really have any friends who know alot about computers or could test it, I'm going to check around today, see what I can do, If I can't get anything done, I'll just RMA it. SickBeast where do you live?

Toronto, Canada. It might be a PITA to send it here. It usually only costs a few dollars more, but customs can cause problems. I'm sure someone on here lives relatively close to you and would be willing to test it.

I decided to just go the RMA route, RMA'd the mobo and CPU, newegg accpted it, sending both back on monday. Thanks for everyone's help
