What did Hulu change?

I go to watch Modern Family and notice the video player is a tad different than last time. Cool stuff... except that now it's a slow mess that needs to buffer 5 minutes to watch 2 minutes. The fuck happened?

I dunno, things I watch aren't in 480p like they used to be either for some reason either, down to 360 or something lower.

They changed it to HTML5 and now have multiple settings 720/480/360

I noticed that too, it was also a little choppier. I thnk the television companies are scaling back their online stuff since they aren't making the money the thought they would on the site and/or are trying to make sure there is a difference between the internet version and the normally aired one.

Watch it a day later, watch it in lower resolution, the video is a lower quality, and the overall flow isn't smooth. All minor issues, but keeps just enough of the masses from just switching over to watching hulu all day and foregoing the normal airwaves.

Yeah, glad I'm not the only one that noticed. Of course, that's stupid since they supposedly are applying volume normalization to prevent that, which makes no sense as whatever they had been doing before was working better.

Its actually running smoother for me now, but it seems like its using a lower bitrate. It showed 288p and had a thing where I could force it to use that resolution or adjust itself. When I didn't force that the quality dropped noticeably. The 288p seemed as good, maybe even slightly better quality than whatever I was getting prior to the site change, so I don't know what the deal is. Of course, I'm on a maybe 1.5 (might even be 768k) DSL connection.

On a side note, Netflix has added HD streaming. It worked decent on the movie I tried, and quality was quite a bit better. Not sure what their version of HD is, as half the time its not HD resolution HD, but rather just some level of higher quality.
