The only part I really didn't like about the movie was when the girl got her "makeover". She looked like a poorly-done 1980s store mannequin. It was just ugly. I could not believe that was supposed to make her look good
That was the "joke". She got a makeover by a bunch of drag queens so she ended up looking like a drag queen.

A friend pointed out that this movie is like Dragonball Z meets Soccer, except without the 4 hours of grunting, groaning and posturing where maybe 5 punches are thrown. I think he's right.

By the by, does anybody know if/how the actor who plays the villian is related to Jackie Chan? I'm pretty sure he is; he has a strong family resemblance and I saw the name "Terry Chan" in the mostly-cantonese credits. (The character name was in ideograms unfortunately)

Dude...what are you talking about? It was funny because she got that kind of make-over. It was so ugly and out of style and that's the funny part!
Knowing your inability to understand the obivious joke Shaolin Soccer presented, I don't think you really watched the movie. Just think you saw something else and do not even talk about it.

It'll be hard to understand the jokes if you don't speak cantonese...when I watched this a lot of the jokes went over the heads of my mandarin speaking friends

If you mean the rival coach Tse Yin, he's Nicholas Tse's father.

Isn't Disney supposed to release this film? From what I understand they bought the rights and were going to release it in the USA?

it was meant to be a joke/prank.

no, the Villian is not related to Jackie. and his last name is actually "Tse" when translated correctly.
