Perfect. I can't say it better myself.

Uh, it wasn't her "dad"

Seemed like a simple concept, dunno why people have such a hard time understanding it.

one of my favourites of all time - definitely in my top 10. inspiring.

i've read the book also. very enjoyable. Sagan's imagination and genius were amazing. great story imho.

I thought it was alright. I might have liked it better if I hadn't just finished reading Clarke's 2001 series... lots of similar themes.

I think it was the last movie I saw in a theater. So glad I did. The opening sequence of getting further away from earth, while not an original idea by any means, was worth the price of admission. Nothing registers the vastness of the galaxy, muchless the universe, like that. Length was fine, personally I've never understood people wanting to get their entertainment over with quickly.

It was about faith, it was about aliens, it was about the lengths people with go to in order to cling to their beliefs. It was about government control, it was about how the fringe on this planet may be more mainstream in the galaxy. It was about a lot of things. Takes awhile to cover all that. :)

"Want to take a ride?"
And yet that opening sequence doesn't even come close. Right from the beginning of the sequence, the scale is all off with the earth and moon oversized and too close to each other. Example page I googled.
In addition, the light year scaling was all off, with 50 years regression being demonstrated in only the 4 light years to Alpha Centauri.

Anyway, it was a really good flick. All about religion, including I might add, the religion of science. I thought the ending was quite good -- more or less realistic to the experiences of most every other person who has claimed that type of religious experience in the past.

One of my favorite movies, I can watch that movie at any given time and be entertained by it as if I'm watching it for the first time ever. for Jodie Foster.

Must be one of those "It was too long" or "Where are the guts and explosions every 5 minutes" kinda guys :D
