What did Edy's do to their ice cream? (cookie dough)

So I bought a carton of Edy's cookie dough. The carton has a redesign, now it says "Fun Flavors" and then cookie dough.

Anyway, it tastes really, really good. Much creamier and better vanilla flavor. After more looking, it says "Dairy dessert" instead of ice cream, so I figured this is kind of like the "Cyclone' dairy dessert that Breyers has. (the Cyclones taste fake though, this Edy's doesn't)

But looking at their website, there isn't a normal cookie dough, only Fun Flavors.

I hope they keep it, because it is very, very good.

That's a special edition. The "Fun Flavors" are premium flavors with lots more add-ins than their standard ice cream.

I hope it doesn't go away, it tastes amazing. Really, buy the cookie dough next time you are at the store, you will see what I mean.

will have to try. Used to love regular Edy's Cookie Dough, then I got spoiled and only like Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough. Mainly because the vanilla is so damn good, but the cookie dough also tastes a little better. But B&J's has SO much better vanilla ice cream that's used as a base. Hell, all of the base ice cream flavors they use are so much creamier than other brands. Probably more heavy cream too, so probably worse for ya. heh

No offense but not many people like eating plant flavored ice-cream.

Besides peppermint of course. :)

That's a bean.

Which is a plant but you are suppose to eat that part. Eating leaves is for caterpillars.

For 'realz' in the sense that carrageenan, a thickener used in many brands of ice cream (and elsewhere) is a product derived from seaweed.

I bought the Edy's Fun Flavors Cookies 'n Cream and didn't like it all - but their regular Cookies 'n Cream is my favorite. I'm going to give another bowl a try but so far I'm not impressed.

Weird, Edys is called Dreyers here.

Link to Exact Website with Dreyers

Thats weird. . .

weird indeed
I wonder if it is something the creators decided, because it sounds like Dreyer's Inc was started by Dreyer and Edy.

and this explains the naming difference based on local:
Dreyer's is marketed under the Edy's brand name in all states east of the Rockies.

The first time I saw "Edy's" was some 8-9 years ago. I completely forgot about it when I came out here to MD and thought... that's looks exactly like Dreyer's! In Colorado it's Dreyer's, dunno if that name goes any further East.
