Rockets. Radio. Going back, airplanes, trains, tinkering around with gears and hydraulics and stuff like that. Weapons. And so on.

I'll bet the dudes that built the pyramids were major nerds.
 
Read science books
Set up a lab and did random science experiments. When do you ever hear about people like Edison now who had a barn where he spent all day tinkering stuff?

Pre-internet we hung out in basements watching movies or we went outside and acted like hooligans. We also played video games and acted like assholes to each other, rather than random, anonymous people online.

They probably read, built radios and crap, and wrote. I mean, look at all of the literature and science done in history. Those were your nerds.
