I think when it comes to Asians, a lot of them are from outside the USA. If federal and state money is going into public universities and colleges, we could say a certain percentage of the slots have to be from the USA. For instance if you have an engineering program and 9/10ths of them are foreign Asian students, then there is something wrong.

Not happening. With perpetual budget shortfalls plaguing universities international students are a gold mine for US colleges.

Two years ago, I enjoyed reading that Pew article on the Rise of Asian Americans. Although my favorite chart was the one below, just to demonstrate just how lacking in priorities American society has become.

Asian Americans are saying they have way more opportunities, freedoms and a greater standards of living in the US, which is quite encouraging. However the morals of our society are questionable, but especially the strength of our family ties absolutely suck. Perhaps we should be listening to what Asians have to say more.

Opportunities are better because Americans simply don't try as hard. if you've ever been to an Asian country, everyone is so set on being the best that its almost impossible to excel.

In America, just go to class, get a few A's and BAM, nice and easy.

In reality Foreign students pay 3 to 4 times the amount to attend the same university. So they are paying the portion for the feds and the states as well as for themselves.

Wrong. Black kids get a failure pass on SATs because someone that was the same race as them 100 years ago was a slave and 50 years ago someone the same race as them couldn't drink from "white only" water fountains.

There is no actual requirement that their ancestors faced any such discrimination. They could have subsequently immigrated here.

I was even being lazy citing 100 years ago since I doubt many people were slaves in the US 1914. So really people are wanting to use a crutch that's 150+ years old. Not that there wasn't rampant discrimination for 100+ years after slavery, but even using all that as a crutch is getting old.

I never said it made sense, just that it happens.

in 2014, there is really no reason other than bad parents and lazy students, anyone can't get ahead. Sure, that inner city school might not be pumping out Harvard Alum, but there is no reason they cannot get into any school at all, if they apply themselves. Barring a mental illness, damn near everyone is capable of learning.

No disagreement here. Were both just citing the stupidities of people chaining themselves to the past and holding back their own futures. It's doubly glaring in the light of groups like Asians and Jews don't allow their past histories to hold them back. Those wanting their forever guaranteed crutches of course hate anyone who tosses theirs aside and walks on their own.

The US has created so many sad scenarios for itself in the name of crony capitalism, globalization and big government. Smart people know where the true problems lie, however they are almost paralyzed into inactivity.

Most of these American Asian families get ahead by simply knowing every problem has a solution. Whereas the average American has been taught, if you ignore a problem enough it will simply vanish.

They sure can, but it's just so much easier to get bennies when the 'father' is supposedly not living in the home and 'cannot' be found. I know this from personal experience as my wife's brother doesn't technically live with the mother of their children to maximize their 'benefits'. BTW he is paid under the table... Of course, the typical liberal response is that this situation is 'rare'

As a liberal, I like my facts.
What makes it easier to get welfare, is the paperwork different?
Your family is definitely ripping off the system, that may be normal for you guys but it wouldn't convince me that everybody does it or most.

That's not what this proposed law is about though. You only get it if you're illegal, not if you're poor but following immigration laws.
