Why do you have to go into debt? You know you're going to buy one when the time comes, so just start saving. Buying something beyond your means is unreasonable.

A lot of people do go into debt for a ring. Why anyone would buy a ring over a car or an HDTV is beyond me though.

Of course you could, but you wouldn't be following tradition. That's fine if you both want that. I enjoy tradition, and I'm happy to buy a ring. They're such beautiful stones. I love looking at them and trying to learn the stones inside and out.

We bought a ~1/3 carat marquis cut. I don't remember any other details...it's been so long. I actually haven't seen it in real life for awhile. My wife doesn't wear it because it's gold and she usually wears silver. We bought a cheap silver + black pearl ring that she uses as here wedding ring.

Mine is similar, but a 3-stone engagement ring (wait 3 days from now and I'll post a thread about it, yay!!) and I'd know b/c he got that from BlueNile. As did I...couldn't be happier :)
