My sibling has a video camera (bought about a year ago) and she'd like to now put the video onto the PC. What kindof product do I need to transfer it, I believe the camera has SV Out or something similar to that.

I have a brand new computer I'd love to stress-test with compressing video, awaiting your replies :)

If you have the firewire port you just need the software and any drivers unique to the camcorder. I have several bits of software I use, but I was pleased most with my Pinnacle Studio 8. I used my firewire port on my Radeon AIW for that one but I could have used the onboard ports for my mobo as well...

other factors for capturing video that is critical to holding desired Fps without dropping frames is harddrive speed and overall system speed.

What kind of PC does she have...List specs...

Well it depends on the type of camera she/he purchased. If it is analogue you will need a capture card

If it is a digital camera all you will need is a IEEE 1394 (firewire) cable and port on your computer then you are ready to go. Some authoring sofware like Adobe Premier or Pinnacle Studio Plus version 9
Would help alot. sony has some thing called i.link on their camcorders (if that is what you have) and that is their name for firewire or iee1394.

If you have an analogue camera you will need a capture card, here are some reccomedations:

Plextor ConvertX
The Plextor is USB, and USB is not considerd to be the best option for converting video to the PC.

Here is a better 1394 Based Hardware solution and is on sale for $175 with Software included.

The best option would be a capture card that plugged directly in to the PCI bus.

The "sv out" on your camera is most likely a S-Video Ouput and Looks Like this Click Here!

It would help me help you a bit if i knew the make and model of camera you are trying to use. Also some info about you PC could help too.

The camcorder is analod, so I'll need one of the capture cards I suppose.

I'll take a look at all of that tomorrow, thanks a ton for all of the replies :D
