what cultures chew food with their mouth open

Was having lunch with friends the other day and my friend's girlfriend was chewing and yapping with her mouth open. Gross! I don't care how hot, that is a deal breaker

Yes...

I was told when I was young that chewing food with my mouth open was an american thing.... It's a non-disgusting thing is what it is. Yes... chinese people chew with their mouths open and are proud of it.

CHewing food with your mouth open is an American thing? Wait...what? Do you mean with the mouth closed? And it's not.

My Indian roommate chews with his mouth wide open, and on top of that stuffs as much food in his mouth as can fit. Which is probably why he can't close his mouth when he eats...

I refuse to sit next to him while eating.

Might as well add in "slurping coffee" while we're at it.

Too hot? Wait until it's cool.

Takes too long to cool? Stop using a cup that's designed to act as an insulator.

Or buy caffeine pills if that's all you're really after. 😛

I think that in the western world it's caused by lack of education/retardation.
But maybe asians are different.

Asians chewing with their mouths open is reason enough for us to go to war with them. Absolutely disgusting habbit. I call out anyone who does it.

My ex-gf was South Indian (Tamil/Telugu mix) and when I dined with her family the first time, I was somewhat shocked. Mouths open while chewing, talking with food in mouth and frequent burping. Both men and women from young to older age did this.

It's a pretty definitive trash test, imo. If you masticate your food with your piehole open, your parents were assholes. Not too put too fine a point on it.

In terms of culture, I have no idea, but I bet if you track it down then British.

i was an exchange student in japan for a summer and when i was there i noticed that people chewed with mouths open and slurped soup/noodles. i was told by the family i was staying with that the more noise you made as you ate, the more you showed the cook you liked the food. it was common there and after a little while, it was no big deal.

for a few weeks after i came home my family would give me all kinds of looks when we ate dinner and asked if i was 'enjoying my food' because i was being loud and chewing with my mouth open.

different strokes for different folks. 😀

Seriously. Why don't people realize people have different customs and do things in ways that seem polite to them?
