what credit card to get?

I will be a freshman in college this fall and I wonder what's a good credit card to get? I will have some sort of allowance from my parents, and I will probably have a job too as work-study. Any ideas? I am inclined towards the American Express Blue card but I don't know if I can get that(they have a version for students but it's inferior)

thanks

I just got a AMEX Blue and I am a student. Just do not tell them you are a student on the application. After all, it is summer now, I am technically not a full-time student. :)

Why are you inclined to get the Amex Blue? I would not get the Amex Blue.

Instead I'd get a traditional Visa or MasterCard with low rate, no annual fee, and perks.

just get a capitol one card. They except ANYBODY. My personal view is that the minimal rewards that credit cards give just aren't worth researching to figure out which one is best. Besides I really don't spend enough money for me to benefit from the rewards. If you just need a credit card and plan to pay if off every month just get a capitol one card. Unless you already have credit.

get the Blue... i got the Student version... and the only thing different is no BlueLoot or price protection... (although price protection is gonna get cancelled, or so i heard)

Unless you have a good credit line, they probably won't give you the regular Blue.
But nonetheless, its a great card, although not accepted everywhere.

If you would like a more widely used card, go for the Citibank MasterCard.
