What credit card to apply for?

Hey,

I currently have a providian visa card (the smart chip one) and I heard providian sucks ... and I'm going to cancel them and apply for a different Credit Card company. I don't spend much, I just usually charge 10 - 20 bucks a month then pay it all by the end of the month.

You already have a Providian, but you "heard" they suck? Interesting. I guess your own personal experience is meaningless?

I happen to like Providian. Just over two years ago, I got a Visa classic from them with a $500 limit. It's now a Platinum with a $10K limit. I also have a GetSmart (same company, used to be Aria) with a $5K limit.

AMex blue

because you can price match other stores with it, and they give you an extended warranty on items purchased with it.

<< what about the credit protection plan? should I have it? what the heck is that? >>

No, don't get it. It's insurance in case you're unemployed or die.

Thanks RossMan. Just one more quick question........I rarely shop, when I do shop, I usually pay with my debit card, so there won't be much chance for me to use this credit card. I know it says on the website that there is no annual fee to it. I just wonder if there is any hidden fee that I do not know about?

I don't use it much ... I've used it like 2 or three times cuz I have a low limit. So I really wouldn't know if they were any good yet.

crap....they couldn't approve my online application right away.....instead, they gonna let me know the result in 2 weeks 🙁

That's usually bad news. But hey look at the bright side if you do get declined with a copy of your decline letter you can get a free copy of your credit history.

I've had no problems with them either.

I'm also currently looking into getting a Credit Card. I have a Debit Card right now, but I need to build up some Credit that I'll pay off every month. I want something that won't cost me anything extra, so no annual fee. How does APR work? Probably a very basic newb question? Is it the interest that gets tacked on if you don't pay by the end of the month?

i would recommend getting another visa. Many places(especially smaller businesses) don't take Amex because they take more out of each sale than the others. Like the commercials say, "Visa, it's everywhere you want to be"

Don't anyone in here use Discover? It's not accepted everywhere but it's my preferred card to use.
