Whatever's faster than my current chip and is relatively cheap, preferably with a socket that will last a few years so I can just upgrade the CPU instead of both the CPU and MB in a 2-3 timespan. I don't have a preference for AMD vs. Intel, screw fanboys.

I think I'll be able to hold out for K8L. Where's that one on the poll?

Just bought a new AMD X2 5 months ago so I don't need a new one, but that was before all the new intel architectures came out.

I default to AMD unless Intel gives me a really good reason to switch. If price/performance is roughtly equivalent, I'll go with AMD just to encourage competition.

Based on rumor, Conroe easily. I might be willing to hold off buying a whole new system if Conroe turns out to dissapoint (which seems very hard), I'm very pleased with my Opteron 165 @ 2.6GHz at the moment...

No such thing as a centrino processor...but there is a Pentium M cpu (probably what you were thinking about)

The laptop I'm getting this summer is either going to be a core duo or turion 64 x2

Oh yeah, also add Turion 64 and Turion 64 x2 to the list

I have a x2 3800 now, so it may be a year or so before I come close to needing to upgrade, but if I had to now I would pick up a conroe.

I've had a 3.46G Presler sitting in a drawer for a couple months, waiting for me to get interested in buying the parts I need to get it up and running. Specs are: virtualization, 4M cache, 1066 FSB, dual core, hyperthreading, 64 bit.

This thread is so biased as Conroe is kinda already proven to be the "best" chip on the consumer market when it comes out and will come out soon.... Many enthusiasts will be getting a Conroe and there are quite a bit of enthusiasts here at ATOT...

What a crappy pole.

How is this poll biased? I see more votes for AMD cpus regardless, and the Intel buyers all want the Conroe chip. What does that tell you about what Intel will have to do with the other cpus in their lineup? That's right, they will either dump them on the market for a loss, or scrap them and write them off.

Unless I really see a reason to upgrade, I'll stick with my nearly four year old P4-M 1.7 Ghz laptop.

I'm going to guess an AMD X2 3800 that I'll just buy off of a friend for cheap when he upgrades and pop in my rig for some OCing.
