What CPU will Xbox2 use?

They attempting to reduce the amount of computer componants in land fills... so they're using 768 Cyrix 486 DX2's =)

A console doesn't require that great of a cpu. The current Xbox only has a 700 mhz processor and it can sure pump out some pretty polygons, and its almost 2 years old.

You cant be more wrong ive used an Xbox and in some parts of games where its obviously in a high processing scenario lots of unites around the thing slows down shockingly ... its sad to see a console slow down in games .. reminds me of the N64 .

700Mhz Celeron in the Xbox was a bad move by microsof.
hope the dont make the same mistake

Athlon64 🙂 all the way hehe

I didn't think it was a Celeron int he xBox... I thought it was a modified P3 to meet the needs of the system. I'm pretty sure that's what it was. I'll have to find where I read that.

*EDIT* Looking at some specs, I guess it's a mobile celeron... 733 Mhz... odd.

It's actually a Coppermine core Pentium III w/ only 128kb L2 cache.

Although it is similar to both, as it has the L2 cache size of a Celeron but the FSB and 8-way set associative cache of the P3, it is technically neither a Celeron nor a P3.

Celexboxermine? 😉

they outta slap a p4-3.2c in it... im pretty sure with that you wont see frame rates fluctuating like they do now. btw, auto modellista is an awesome game for ps2, i just got it couple days ago. certainly my #2 favorite racing game aside from grand turismo 3. but yeah, i think xbox2 is gonna be an awesome system, i just hope they put a better cpu in it.

As things have gone now, each new system is just a little more then twice as fast as the previous one. And FYI, it is already decided that AMD is going to make the cpu for xbox, im guessing they will use an athlon xp 1500 or 1600. perhaps modified to run cooler.

thats alot better then the last one for sure. im anxious to see it

i dont remember where but some time ago at ign.com i think, posted a link to somethign microsoft said about xbox 2 using ati and amd. And lets look at it this way: N64 93Mhz Dreamcast 200Mhz(ps2 and dreamcast are in the same area almost equal in power) gamecube 485mhz xbox 733mhz, and im guessing an athlon xp 1500 or 1600 becasue that is a little over twice the mhz of xbox now. Gamecube twice as fast as dc, xbox twice as fast as ps2. And for video card if they go with the way they did with xbox, would probably be a radeon 9600 pro or 9500 pro. or some new custom design from ati.

since microsoft will loose money on the console, they will use something that they can buy for very cheap. It will also need to not produce much heat.

It will be whatever chip requires less cooling less power, from whichever company wants to sell at or near cost. They HAVE NOT said who is making the CPU.

This is true... But they also need to take supply into consideration. (Who can supply the amount of product necessary.)
