What is your cpu temperature reading on AMD64 3200 processor. Mine is - 42C idle and 53C at load.
Is my temp too high ? I was hoping my temp would be under 40s. Here is my config:

Chaintech VNF-250 MB,
Thermaltake Silentboost for K8
Used Arctic Sliver 5 thermal paste
One Seagate SATA 160 GB harddrive
One maxtor IDE 200 GB harddrive
AMD 64 3200
Antec Sonata Case

I just built my rig 3-4 days ago. Should I be seeing lower temperature once my system settles down ? Or Do I need to do some CPU burn in ?

I do not plan to overclock much.

Thanks for your input.

Be aware that motherboards aren't all calibrated the same. Even a BIOS revision can change the reading, as Chaintech owners will know :) So don't compare your temps to anyone else's unless they have the same motherboard and BIOS revision.

I get around that with the stock fan. With a Vantec it approached 60 degrees (way too hot). I try to keep everything under 50.

My ZNF3 150 reads temps very high, as high as yours almost but my thermal sensor reads about 7C less. From what I've seen the thermal sensor is much more accurate so don't you worry.

BTW, I am using the latest beta bios of 5/07/04. So I guess 42C to 53C is not that high.
However, in my friend's rig, who has the ditto configuration, but has a cheap Speeze Aluminium HSF(instead of TT silent boost K8), is getting a 3-4 lower degrees temparature.

Thanks guys!

Hey here is my config. I get around the same temps as you ~45C idle, ~54 full load for a long time. I see that we are both using "Silent" type cases, which definately add to the heat. My system is rock solid stable though, so I am not too worried about the temps.

Athlon64 3400+ @ 2.32GHz
Zalman 7000A-Cu
Chaintech VNF3-250 (NForce 250)
512MB Geil PC4000
2x74GB Western Digital Raptors
Radeon 9700TX
Sound Blaster Audigy ZS
Lite-On SOHO 8X DVD+-RW
Enermax 460 Noisetaker PS
Lian-Li PC6070B Silent Case

Thanks Schnieds!
That is comforting to know ppl with similar configurations are getting similar temperatures. My rig is also stable.
Last night I ran CPU Burn In for 20 minutes, and my temp was at 52C constantly.

I bought a 3200+ and installed Kingwin Fan & Heatsink for the CPU. This is the first time I apply those heatsink compound onto the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink. I'm a little freak-out and worry that I might put too much on it.

Anyway, it seems like so far so good. It's about 30-31 C right now when I was installing Windows. I haven't test out it's full ability, but soon, I'll. :)
