I have an Intel PIII 800mhz, but I can't tell if it's 133 or 100. It's a FCPGA chip.

Here are all the numbers on the CPU:

INTEL imc '99 (Copyright info...)
Pentium III Malay
RB80526PZ800256 (This is how I know it's 800mhz I'm no dummy)
Q007A249-0065 QS22ES

I'm assuming the QS22ES is the stepping number but I've never heard of that before. Anyone know?

Thanks

I thought all PIII SSPEC codes started with SL?

hmm I see a2 in the first batch of numbers/leters I would guess it's a cA2 but until you get the s spec I cant say for sure.

Is this just me or aren't all processors about 800mhz cb0 stepping?

According to Intel, all 800's are cB0 stepping. You can download Intels CPU frequency and ID program at www.intel.com. It should show your CPU as a 0683 CPUID#. Also if it's an SL463/3Y3 it is to be used on a 100 mhz bus and if it's an SL464/3Y2 it is to be used on a 133 mhz bus.

OK I see all that but those are the only numbers on the CPU. It did originally come from someone at Intel so maybe it's a pre-production cpu or test cpu? Still not knowing...

If you run the Intel program it will tell you the expected CPU operating frequency and corresponding bus speed. This will tell you what you should be operating you CPU at. Of course this will only work if you have the CPU installed and running. If you are unsure, you can always install and run it at 100mhz X 6 to check.

I installed it at 100mhz 8x and it booted fine. I downloaded the utility and lo and behold "The tested Intel(R) processor does not appear to be a production processor. The utility is designed to support production Intel processors only"

I guess I was right.

Anyway, here are the rest of the numbers...

Type 0
Family 6
Model 8
Stepping 3

That's it.

0683 is a cB0 stepping processor.

QS22ES is an Engineering Sample.

It's not locked. I was able to boot at 133mhz with 6x multiplier. Windows 2000 failed to complete the boot process though, when it went to switch from the logo screen to the full resolution it rebooted twice in a row.

More tests to follow...

One fun thing to do is to put one of these unlocked Pentium III's into an Asus P3V4X motherboard... the bit where it says "processor speed" in the BIOS has a hyterically huge amount of choices.
