200mhz is the diff so I imagine there may be a noticeable time difference in rendering at end of editing but the question is...is it worth the extra price for that slightly faster speed??? There is a hefty premium for the 3500+ vs 3200+....

The money saved could be thrown into more RAM or a 74gb raptor or high density SATA drive......Thise are all areas that can have a very beneficial performance difference as well

just get the fastest processor you can that fits your budget, 3500 being preferable. you have to weight out the price to performance ratio and make the judgement call yourself. personally i'd settle for the 3200 on 939 and get assloads of ram, then possibly drop in a dual core in a year or two.

as for the software, you might want to head over to software part of the forum and ask for AMD optimized video editing option.

honestly dual core is just around the corner, if you get a socket 939 you'll have that option open when it comes out. i think it would be a huge benifit to your video editing needs when its out. you can just scrap by with the cheapest 939 CPU you can find and make up for it with lots of cheap DDR ram.

The only 90nm chips are the winchesters...130nm chips can come in sckt939 but are in the 3500+,3800+ and 4000+ variety....

Think about it this way....About a year from now when dual cors have been out a bit if they are not still cheap enough then we can help you oc that baby and likely pull another 500-600mhz out of it to tye you over a bit longer...Like an upgrade built in!!!!

yep, thats a winchester. and since AMD64s don't get much of a benefit from expensive ram just get 1.5 or 2 gigs of some value ram.

Better keep it in modules of 2 or 4 if you want the dual channel ram which its added bandwidth can actually be a boost in video apps...

Well I am not sure about the asus mobo, but some boards have to run slower speed and looser timings when all 4 dimms are filled...May wnat to research that a bit with actual asus users...maybe an asus forum....Usually the less amount of sticks the better, but price may be an issue there...
